Ok, we have a winner. It'll take a marshall-esque plane crash to top that.the week of January 19th 1993
This makes sense.Depends on how you define worst. If you define it as most emotionally devastating, then there are obviously several that top it.
But if you define it as most humiliating/embarrassing....you'd be hard pressed to identify very many examples of another single day in Iowa athletics history where we provided more fodder for national ridicule than December 21, 2022.
No question a terrible day for football. This makes sense.
However, while yesterday would be the most embarrassing/humiliating for MBB, I still feel January 1, 2016 was it for the FB program.
Um no, that was the week Chris Street died.Possibly the highest ranked recruit you've ever had for your football team stabs you in the back on signing day and the basketball team loses to a team they were favored to beat by 31.5
I don't see KP flipping on us as "embarrassing/humiliating" as much as just flat out disrespectful/painful.No question a terrible day for football.
But yesterday we were jilted by the highest rated recruit in the history of the state... someone committed to us for half a year. And then our entire program was roasted and lampooned on his way out the door. Those comments were repeated ad nauseam nationally on all channels and outlets. And just when you thought our collective humiliation couldn't get worse, Franny and the boys were like, "you ain't seen nothing yet, folks!"
Fans thought the sky was falling a few years ago when Foster picked Iowa State and Iowa lost to DePaul that very night.
This week is a big nothing burger. No doubt the week Chris Street was killed was the worst.
I get what you're saying, but at this point I really don't care. Iowa may in fact squeak into the tournament but they aren't getting out of the first weekend. In thirteen years, we've seen the level of commitment Fran's teams make to defense. That is not a recipe for success in March.I agree that neither will have a dramatic impact on the macro level for the football/basketball programs.
However, the EIU loss could single-handedly punt Iowa from NCAA consideration (or at least drop them several seeds). So that one loss could be the equivalent to an entire month of a "Fran-fade" February.
Bad for immediate prospects. Probably nothing more than a "remember when" 5 years from now.
new coaches and an AD would helpWe will move on an survive we are Hawkeyes!
My son was born 1/18/93. Remember those weeks after Chris Street like it was yesterdaythe week of January 19th 1993
Richmond didn't beat us because of our defense. They only shot 42% for the game and we out rebounded them.I get what you're saying, but at this point I really don't care. Iowa may in fact squeak into the tournament but they aren't getting out of the first weekend. In thirteen years, we've seen the level of commitment Fran's teams make to defense. Wow, you just flooded me with horrible memories. Might have to put on some old school prn now to wash my brain out! That time in 93 is in a league of it's own. I'd nominate black friday a month ago for how absolutely pathetic that loss was with a west title on the line and on senior day followed by the exodus of receivers and JJ the week after. Losing by 9 to Western Michigan last game in 07 to miss a bowl the same week bball lost to Bradley and Utah State in yr 1 of Lick disaster was one that stands out
