Some Hawkeye Fans Are Annoying

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion agreed . but its rude and not an entitlement to ruin someone else's game day experience by being lazy or stupid ...

Would you walk in late to a theatre performance ?

Would you walk in late to a movie?

Would you walk in front of parents watching a game?

It's just common courtesy
Ya, exactly, all things everyone should have learned by 5th grade! :)

I’m a former Hawkeye letterman and college coach. What do I prefer? When I was on the field playing or sideline coaching the last thing on my mind was if the fans were getting to their seats early. YOU sound like the one that “must not have played sports. lol”
Ya, would you PREFER fans were to da game by A) start of game, B) start of 2nd qtr, C) star of 3rd, D) start of 4th? Answer A, start of game. Not rocket science, everyone knows this. And yes played sports.

You sound like one of those that wouldnt participate in da wave too? Lol

Kinnick sells out. Wack Trice doesn't. :)

Why get so upset with the guy he's only stating the truth. Let's face the fact that the Iowa fan base has become a pretty spoiled bunch.

This thread is full of win on so many levels. The brilliance of it brings a tear to my eye. I remember when I could think one of these up.

Been going to Kinnick since the knothole era. I mean...the general chaos of the student section in the 80s...the riots on the field after games. Yes, riots. Cheap shots galore.

and then we are complaining about people getting up? Pffftt.....lol....

That’s part of why I’m giving up my season tickets after 12 years. I just can’t stand the “tough guys” who think they are the gods of the aisles and rows. Haha

Also the fact that most people don’t even know the rules or game is annoying.

During the Maryland game a guy behind us kept yelling at the refs for no reason. There was zero reasons to be yelling and yet he was screaming his head off at the officials. He was using profanity around kids.

Plus the parking situation and travel to and from the game. I’ll save my 2k and go to a coupe of road games every year. Better tailgate set up and most stadiums are just as nice if not better than Kinnick.

Ferentz felt a reason to yell at the refs early in the game. Looked like he was yelling at one of them that Fant was held on an out route.

Even still, of all of the games for Joe Fan to yell at officials, this one ranks pretty low on the list. Zero penalties against the Hawks. What calls or lack there of had this fan upset? The only real obvious one was the forward pass ruled backwards for a two yard loss. Not really anything to be shouting obscenities at. The play KF was upset about didn’t look that bad, but his view was a lot better than the video.

Bottom line, don’t let others dictate your enjoyment of the game.

During this break between games I wanted to point out a very irritating
thing I noticed the last few games and especially last Saturday.

It was 5 minutes before kickoff and Kinnick Stafium was literally half full? True it filled in as the first quarter progressed but really.???It was homecoming, the team was rated #19 in the country and there was zero reason for any fan to not be in the stadium .

Also in the 4th quarter more than half the students started to bail out and leave early as did some of the other so called fans.

And finally, it was 10:30 AM and we were walking past the Kinnick or Champions lot whatever they call it ,the big donor lot ?and it was only 3/4 full.

I don't care for any excuses like

1) I have to beat the traffic or
2) I was cold and it was windy or
3) I wanted to get back and tailgate or
4) I always arrive at the stadium at 10:30 to park because I can

Bottom line is it is rude to have people coming in late, your not showing support for your team and your being rude to people who have to move for you to get to your seat while the game is playing.

Why bother to come at all when you are going to miss half of the first quarter and half of the last quarter or worse .

It's just really pathetic and annoying that people cannot just do the right thing .
YOU'RE annoying. People who pay for their Tix can do what they like with them, including not even go.

There is a guy who sits in the row behind me who always shows up 1/2 way thru the first quarter, and is usually gone by the 4th. Saturday he arrived at his usual time, left midway thru the second quarter, then returned early in the third. When asked where he was, he said he “needed a drink”. He left for good either late in the third or early in the fourth.

I don’t understand why he bothers to buy a season ticket.

In Madison, students don't show up until about half time. So at least our students are showing up in the first quarter :)

Go ahead and cross in front of me and try to find your seats 10 minutes after the game starts and I guarantee you you will not be getting by me anytime fast... and while your at it, try to cross in front of me during the live action or during a play and you might find a foot up your ass.

Internet tough. Real life, you won't say a word. Yes! You are THAT guy. Eat a freaking Snickers.

I "understand" your comments. However, let it go man ... let it go ... You can't control others and if you let stuff like this bother you it will ruin your day. I say kudos to everyone who did travel to Kinnick (rather they arrived early or late). As for early departures ... everyone has their own reasons ... You can't control what everyone else does ... I've been guilty of leaving games a little early in order to get a head start to my car and get back home to Des Moines ... Some of his have other obligations as well ...

Why do you care?....
I don’t. It is his money and his ticket. He can do what he wants.

I don’t understand why people would pay good money for tickets plus travel, etc. if they are only going for 1/2 the game (and he usually misses 1-2 games each year).

Again...I don’t really care...I just wonder why.

That was my thought......are the same people that are overly sensitive about this the same ones that complain about ticket prices. I bet it is ....some people just want to complain ...doesn't matter what the subject is!!

Well first off, you hit it on the head. It was homecoming dude; there are a myriad of events that go down prior to the actual game, including students and alumni who were probably out partying the night before and tailgated at 5am the next day. And then, Iowa proceeded to take MD behind the woodshed on a day when it was 40ish degrees and 30 mph winds. PS, the game was sold out.

Haaaaaaaaaa ha.

You might need your diaper changed.

I don't come late and I don't leave early.

Leaving early is worse than coming late if you ask me.

Well $500 is a ton of money to some people and hardly anything to others.

Also, a good number of people just enjoy the atmosphere/social "stuff".

Me? I love the atmosphere/social "stuff" but my number one priority is watching the GAME. All of it.

I'm not going to bother reading all this garbage, so someone tell me if the OP ever expresses anger over people standing during the game too? If not, wake me when he does as then I know it's a good gameday complaint thread.

Your right there Mr. You can be as annoying as hell, as discourteous as you want to be.. you payed your money so you can be big douchbag .

My exact point...

Responds to post correcting him on "your/you're", still uses it incorrectly with the first word of the response. You can't make this stuff up people.

Ironic that half the people seem to have the same complaint as I originally posted and the other half tell me they don't care and suck it up..

My point exactly... it's about 50% of the fan base that shows up late, goes down the aisle during the action , yaps on cell phones and leave early .

When I first strarted attending the games in the late 70's and early 80's the general Iowa fan base was much more considerate, yes there were problems with drunken fans and the occasional flare up but overall much more classy .

The game day experience from tailgating to the actual game has definitely deteriorated . I'm just glad I have a group of friends that I go to the games with that understand that .

1) No, about 90% don't care what you think and are rightfully making fun of you for it. You don't get to determine how others enjoy their Kinnick experience. They have every right to show up late, leave early, or play on their phone if they so choose. They (for whatever reason) payed for the right to do so. I personally get there on time, leave after the game, and outside of taking a picture or checking a score, don't have my phone out. But that's what I decided. If you don't like what others do there that has no effect on you, don't go. Or get club seats where you're not "inconvenienced" by others.

2) Doubtful.

Guys, OP is right. We need to start a petition that the University of Iowa ban all drinking at least an hour before games, so that fans are respectful and get to the bathrooms and make it to their seats on time. Kinnick also needs to completely shut down all food and drink sales prior to kickoff and before the 2nd half, maybe like a 5 minute window immediately after the 2nd quarter ends. They should lock down the bathrooms during that time, as well. They can hire some hall monitors up to make sure no one crosses in front of anyone, and also that no one stands during the game (except the national anthem, of course!)

I'm sure with the enactment of these rules that OP and the other 100 old jerks that still make it to the games will have a much more pleasant experience. I'll meet the rest of you at a bar somewhere that we're still allowed to talk.
