Some Hawkeye Fans Are Annoying

1) No, about 90% don't care what you think and are rightfully making fun of you for it. You don't get to determine how others enjoy their Kinnick experience. They have every right to show up late, leave early, or play on their phone if they so choose. They (for whatever reason) payed for the right to do so. I personally get there on time, leave after the game, and outside of taking a picture or checking a score, don't have my phone out. But that's what I decided. If you don't like what others do there that has no effect on you, don't go. Or get club seats where you're not "inconvenienced" by others.

2) Doubtful.

I was sitting in club seats ... and yes people who walk in front of me as I am trying to see the game because they are either late or just don't care does "affect" my enjoyment of the game .

Therefore show up on time or don't expect me to let you walk though unless it's a timeout or stoppage of play. If you must go to the restroom or grab a snack at least do it when the game isn't in progress, otherwise I will rightfully let you know that you are being a discourteous asswipe.

Guys, OP is right. We need to start a petition that the University of Iowa ban all drinking at least an hour before games, so that fans are respectful and get to the bathrooms and make it to their seats on time. Kinnick also needs to completely shut down all food and drink sales prior to kickoff and before the 2nd half, maybe like a 5 minute window immediately after the 2nd quarter ends. They should lock down the bathrooms during that time, as well. They can hire some hall monitors up to make sure no one crosses in front of anyone, and also that no one stands during the game (except the national anthem, of course!)

I'm sure with the enactment of these rules that OP and the other 100 old jerks that still make it to the games will have a much more pleasant experience. I'll meet the rest of you at a bar somewhere that we're still allowed to talk.

The 100 old jerks ( I am assuming you mean over the age of 55) you refer to more likely than not represent more than 50% of the Kinnick fan base .

These are the folks who have been to games since the 1970's and whose donations and loyalty have built the foundation of what you enjoy as Iowa Football right now. You can be as funny as you want to be but don't expect me to let you walk through during the game and don't be surprised if I make it clear that you are being an inconsiderate asswipe.

This is happening in literally every stadium regardless of sport or pro/college, but if the snowflake OP wants to start a thread bagging on Hawkeyes to feel better about it, go right ahead.

For the record, I travel over 700 miles when I come and almost always am there before kickoff and never leave early or go to bathroom when it's not a stop in play. But guys like OP just suck. Some people are annoying and inconsiderate. That's life. Accept it or stay home....yes the atmosphere has deteriorated over the 30 years I've been going but it's because of lame asses like the OP, not people cutting in front of me (is OP vertically challenged, btw?). But I keep going....not gonna let a minority of uptight control freak fans ruin it for me, wish he could do the same.

Still waiting on that seat location....or OP could just lighten up, Francis. Jeesh

" Accept it or stay home"

Really, absolutely not.. the problem lies with the inconsiderate people... not with the ones who play by the rules. I don't care if it's a football game or some other event, you do something discourteous and I'm going to let you know it's not acceptable .

I saw a few beach balls last Saturday. Fans trying to keep the beach ball in play, with that wind, infuriated me.

Especially the idiots who bat it towards the field. Geez.

As far as the 'courteous' fans in the 70's and 80's does that include the people who threw glass bottles at kids selling sodas, throwing stuff on the field or stealing a coaches hat? The seating in the new club suites limits the issues with people walking in front of you or leaving the aisle.

I was going to bring up the math. 50-50 in your head old timer. 90% don’t agree with you. We actually get along with everyone in our section and have a great time with them. Even though people are up and down all the time. Try being nice once.

Just make sure you don't walk in front of me during live action... I am more than happy to oblige you when you need to go in and out , just do it when there is a break in the action. Do not expect me to let you through when you are 10 minutes late and the game is in progress.

The bottom line is that people can have any number of reasons for running late or having to leave early. Anybody that isn’t cognizant of this sucks.

I would say that there should be an etiquette of waiting until between plays or series to leave or enter, but that’s just common sense

'Let me through'? Good one

During this break between games I wanted to point out a very irritating
thing I noticed the last few games and especially last Saturday.

It was 5 minutes before kickoff and Kinnick Stafium was literally half full? True it filled in as the first quarter progressed but really.???It was homecoming, the team was rated #19 in the country and there was zero reason for any fan to not be in the stadium .

Also in the 4th quarter more than half the students started to bail out and leave early as did some of the other so called fans.

And finally, it was 10:30 AM and we were walking past the Kinnick or Champions lot whatever they call it ,the big donor lot ?and it was only 3/4 full.

I don't care for any excuses like

1) I have to beat the traffic or
2) I was cold and it was windy or
3) I wanted to get back and tailgate or
4) I always arrive at the stadium at 10:30 to park because I can

Bottom line is it is rude to have people coming in late, your not showing support for your team and your being rude to people who have to move for you to get to your seat while the game is playing.

Why bother to come at all when you are going to miss half of the first quarter and half of the last quarter or worse .

It's just really pathetic and annoying that people cannot just do the right thing .

LITERALLY half full 5 minutes before kickoff, you say? This photo is from Hawk Central, taken during the national anthem.

Lol. Internet tough guy! Would love to be there to see you lose a knee cap!

Regarding people’s reasons for when they get to their seats. I take my elderly mother to her seat and leave my seat early to help her down the stairs when the game ends.

That said, no one owes you any kind of a god damned explanation as to why they arrive at and leave a game at any particular time. If they want to beat traffic, tailgate, or whatever. You don’t get to decide what should be important to others, it’s a freaking football game.

I will get up and move about as I see fit tough guy.

Stop trying to be the big hoss who feels like for some reason he has earned the right to set all of the rules for society. You haven’t earned squat you blowhard. It isn’t 1980 any more buddy. I was there in the early 80’s through now too and guess what, unlike you and your Neanderthal boneheaded “friends” we have evolved and adapted to society. My money and time is just as precious as yours and I will do what the hell I want with it.

For your information, I was there on time Saturday, stayed the whole game, and do care about those around me, but I will be damned if some decrepit tool is going to lay down some BS set of arbitrary rules on how I conduct my life. For Christ’s sake, if you can’t get through a game in your luxury ivory tower seats, find a new fricking way to spend your time.

People like you give your and my generations a bad name.

When the game is being played sit down and watch it, when there is a time out or break in the action then get up and move. It's really simple courtesy and proper etiquette. I do not give a rats ass about what how society has evolved or changed, some basic rules always apply so do not expect me to accept being inconvenienced when some inconsiderate moron wants to walk in front of me when the game is being played , it is not going to happen .

I may even linger in front of you to watch the play, while blocking your view. As you lean one way to try and see I may lean that way as well...... better bring an extra shoe...

Kinnick sells out. Wack Trice doesn't. :)
Ya, son, that is at least da 3rd time you've made that junior high comment. Please don't disrespect da name of an Iowa State hero, a black football player who died from injuries in a game against Minnesota. Would never mock da name of Nile Kinnick. You're better than a that. Thanks :)

I think WhoaNellieCy should walk in front of this guy during game action. Maybe a foot in the ass would make him stop talking like an idiot. Also, there is a word to describe guys that use the word asswipe: CROTCHETY. Plus, there is no way you would get those white Nike Monarchs up anyone's butt, because those shoes are wide as hell.

Ya, another weak junior high comment. Very weak. :)

BTW - There are 2 types of people in this world, those that are always early/ontime, and those that are always late. You sound like da 2nd type of guy. :)

Well, since you are such a good judge of people's gameday habits, let me know how you are wrong. I'm always at my seat at least 30 mins (on the game clock) before the game starts. In the past 10 years, I've left early a handful of times, usually with 3 or less mins left on the clock in the 4th. The only time I left a lot earlier was the Penn State game where they were blowing us out in Kinnick. I left in the 3rd quarter of that one. Otherwise, I've stayed until In Heaven There Is No Beer at every game.

I feel sorry for you. I question if you have season tickets, because every year I get the opportunity to choose my seats at some point. Choose a seat/section where you can be the last one in the row, so then no one can get by you. It really isn't that hard.

Ya, good man, early is good! Also if you're not in your seats early at Kinnick, don't they disappear due to overweight people, people who aren't supposed to be in your row, etc? (I've been to a few games at Kinnick, but not my stadium of choice) lol

I have no problems with people leaving early, getting out of Kinnick to I-80 is a logistical nightmare :)

No one has answered whether it's ok for me to stand up during games

Can I stand up to watch certain plays or do I have to sit the whole time while the game is live?

Sounds like you might be one of the jackasses who walk I front of people during the game.

I got into the stadium before the swarm and I waited until after the Brandon Smith TD on Saturday before I went up to use the bathroom but you whining suggests you should start staying home
