Writing about this tonight, so more to come, but looking up some old numbers and it's pretty telling.

It's no secret that Iowa Football is generally very good when they run the ball well and stop the run. That's a formula for a lot of college programs, especially at Iowa.

Iowa is currently averaging 214 yards per game on the ground. In 2002, Iowa averaged 214 yards per game on the ground. We all know how good that team was on offense and particularly running the football.

On defense, Iowa is giving up 74 yards per game. That's 4th in the country, by the way. In the Ferentz era, the years Iowa held opponents under 100 yards per game for a season? 2002-04 and 2008. Win totals those years: 11, 10, 10, 9. National ranking at the end of the year: 8, 8, 8, 20.
