Some nights your shots don't fall.

and some nights, your opponent simply can't miss. Other nights, the breaks don't go your way. Some games, the ball just bounces funny.

Tonight was none of those.

Tonight was an absolute failure of coaching and floor leadership. That's why it's so hard to swollow.

True. This was weak knees and sweaty palms in crunch time. Tough atmosphere for sure but to turn the ball over 4 times in the last minute and lose an 8 point lead never shooting a free throw...well...you just have to learn from this and move on if you are the Hawkeyes.

The learn from this boat has sailed on this Senior class long ago. I've lost track the number of games they have choked away with a minute to go.

As many upperclassmen that are starting and playing significant minutes, if they are still "learning" and haven't figured this stuff out yet, then our coaching staff has some serious problems with player development.

Either that, or they don't recruit players that have the "it" clutch factor.

Just seems we get outcoached, though. ISU clamped down on D in the second half last night and Iowa stopped getting wide open 3's. ISU, on the other hand, kept scoring at will, so apparently Iowa was either unable to adjust, or did not try.

ISU did ramp up the defense, but Iowa still had looks. The problem was when the game got under 2 min, Iowa started sweating and got scared. AW was always the guy who Iowa could lean on to make a shot or a play. This year we do not have that player. Utoff is a great shooter, but he can't get to the rim very easy. Clemmons or Gessell need to drive to the basket and STOP JUMPING IN THE AIR TO PASS THE BALL.

This senior group help build the Iowa program back, but they still lack the toughness to beat good teams.

"The learn from this boat has sailed on this Senior class long ago."

I think this is a very uneducated statement. Our season was about to go south last year at the crucial time, as it had only 12 months earlier. However, a senior finally learned and carried us the last month of the season. We had as good an end of feb/beginning of March as any of us had seen in quite a while. And it was all because a senior finally figured it out.

We all get frustrated when they lose...especially to ISU...especially when they give it away. No one argues, that should be a W in our schedule this morning. However, to suggest this team can't learn and actually capitalize from the events of last night is just stupid.

Go Hawks!

Yeah and that was not this Seniors class wasn't it? I'm talking who is still playing now. Not Senior in general.

I don't understand. You have some for-knowledge that these four seniors don't have the possibility of doing what Aaron White did?

Go Hawks!
I have 4 years worth of info showing that the vast majority of the time they don't, proven yet again. Up that much with that time left you have to win those games 90+% of the time and yet again we lose LOL.

Yes, and last year we had four years worth of data that showed Aaron White would never even shoot the big three pointer, let alone make it. We also knew that he couldn't attack off the dribble, because he had been a garbageman scoring on the break and offensive rebounds for four years. But all the sudden, as a senior, he figured it out. That gave us a really enjoyable month at the end of last season.

I don't understand why fans want to react and say time has run out. We haven't even started conference play their senior year. The truth is we now have a better chance of beating Michigan State on December 29 then we did before. That's the way sports works. You learn by losing, you learned by failing.

Again, I understand the frustration. 90% of my friends are Iowa State fans, so last night was certainly no fun for me. However, to say we are out of time is foolish. Last night probably helped our conference outlook. .

I'm not giving up I'm just speaking my mind and it doesn't look pretty, have you seen our first several games in BIG play, BRUTAL.

Very good. Yes, I agree. In all of our pain from last night, let me offer the silver lining. That lost last night will pay dividends during the first two weeks of the Big Ten season. Mark my words. ;)

MSU twice, just like in Lames, we are cursed vs them. Snatch defeat from jaws of victory, EVERY time.
