Someone talk me down

It's college football so anything can happen, but Purdue has 2 wins, one against a Nebraska team minus Armstrong.

Minnesota was a trap game, Indiana was a trap game. I don't think this one is.

I think the weather helps us too, cold and breezy day will make passing tough, which is Purdue's strength, this will be a running game and we have a distinct advantage with that

In other years absolutely, but this is a team that is playing to win! There is a huge difference from last year and the confidence this team has is at an all time high. We have skilled players and a QB that can actually make plays and a lot of them. The defense needs to make a few changes and I'm sure they will do that during the week. Senior day, I'm seeing a big win in Iowa City!

There are no more trap games.

We can't look ahead to Nebraska because winning this game gets us the division, as previously mentioned. Purdue has also challenged some teams, including Northwestern, and of course beat Nebraska, the team we play after Purdue.

This.

No way. The players know that a strong performance this week clinches a trip to Indianapolis. Even if it's ugly, and Iowa sure knows ugly, this week is a win.

Purdue has 2 wins this year.

Most times, team are what their results state. They are the worst team in the B10. I know they played Wisconsin, NW and MSU tough...but they also did not win either.

Their win over Nebraska was perfect storm type stuff. Nebby reserve QB throwing a lot of picks, and Nebraska's defense completely mailing it in when they got down. Purdue's inexperience at winning B10 games allowed Nebraska back into the game - but up till then, it was effectively 42-16 (I believe) Purdue at that time. It was a sight to behold, watching it happen.

Capable of winning? Sure. Likely? No. Iowa would have to no show in all 3 phases for them to lose. Giving Purdon't a LOT of help.

And I just do not see that happening.

Captain Kirk may keep it close in the 3rd quarter again, but I see a double digit, maybe 20 point halftime lead that we hold this time, unlike the last 3 weeks...

I think it was kind of a good thing that Minny made the defense look bad last week. I feel like they had their manhood questioned and they are looking to respond with a big time effort and show they are an elite defense albeit one that had serious lapses last week. And as a previous poster stated the weather should work against the PU offense and be perfect for the 4 deadly horsemen in the Iowa backfield.
Anything can happen in college football but I think the Hawkeyes wrap up the West on Saturday.

I'll borrow from Sir Alex Ferguson here:

Lads, it's Purdue.

This team has the togetherness and mental fortitude to overcome any obstacle. Yes, it's college football, yes our defense has been a shambles the last couple weeks. Yes, we have much to look forward to. But these guys are good and they are mentally strong. All the intangibles point to us. The division trophy is on the sidelines, ready for us to take it. Purdue will wilt before our rushing attack. They will be tripping over each other trying to get out of that snowy hell-hole as soon as possible. (I mean that as in it will be a hell-hole for them)

Iowa 45
Purdue 0

I'll borrow from Winston Churchill:

We shall defend our stadium, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the offense, we shall fight on the defense, we shall fight on the special teams, we shall fight in all band and cheerleader competitions; we shall never surrender.

Although its also starting to appear possible there will still be falling snow at game time... if that ends up being the case it may be just as hard to make a cut as catch a ball.

The Nebraska game is the classic "trap game" - team that is better than their record, on the road, and fighting for a bowl game.

At this point in the season, it's hard to have a trap game. Everybody on the field and in the stands knows how important the games are.

Does this week feel like the classic trap game to anyone else? Purdue has moments of being good. After watching the Hawk defense last week, this game is no walk in the park by any stretch. Help talk some sense into me!
A good power run game beats Purdue easily.

I don't think many of you know what Trap Game means.

I always thought it meant that you have enough know-how to get your car and house registered in someone else's name so that you can manufacture crack and package heroin without being fingered easily. As in: "You have excellent trap game."

Purdue has the 112th ranked rush defense. It is going to be a nasty day weather wise in Kinnick. Expect a heavy dose of 29 and 33.

This.

It's actually hard to find an authoritative reference for a definition. So I'll take the place of the authority figure and provide the following:

It's not so simple as "you're favored, so beware the upset." We call those days Saturday. Specifically, a trap game is a game played as a heavy favorite either before or after a difficult/rivalry game. Even more, the heavy underdog has some quirk or matchup advantage that gives them something they can exploit if the favorite is not mentally sharp. If this game falls both before and after difficult games, it's a sandwich game.

So Saturday qualifies as a trap game since we have a trip to Lincoln to look forward to less than a week later. One struggles to find how Purdue can hurt us, though, they're bad at pretty much everything.

However, I feel the undefeated effect trumps the trap game effect. All games are dangerous when you're undefeated this late in the season. Everyone wants to knock you off, and there is much more on the line than usual, much history waiting to be made, and the pressure of fumbling that opportunity is huge. When you're undefeated, there are no trap games, because every game is a trap game unless you face an equal.
