Is how well this team is doing with such a small senior class, with no 'stars' in it, and we have hardly anything left of our 2015 recruiting class (they are RSJuniors now) and of the ones still around, only 3 are/were starters (Anthony Nelson, Jake Hockaday, Ojemudia ). A couple are quality backups that "may" start next year (Levi Paulson, Brady Reiff). The only ones left of a class of 21 recruits besides the ones listed are Cook, Landon Paulson, Vejvoda, and Newburg and only Cook and Landon have a chance to help us.

It wasn't a great class to begin with, but we can't afford to lose well over half of a class (12) within a couple years of them stepping on to campus.

We've only lost 10 of 46 of the 2016-2017 classes. That is probably were we need to be, and stay, as far as attrition goes. With kids not leaving, we will have somewhat smaller classes and we can be more 'picky'.

I’ve seen too many seasons where next year looks better. Do it this year.
I don't think next year looks better and don't believe that I implied that at any time. I am just impressed with how this team is doing under the circumstances I presented.

Read the post below you bro. You made good points that next year COULD be better, and I agree, but most of us are tired of waiting for next year.

Now. Bring it now. Let’s win the conference this year and build off it. We could be damn good next year if we go and win it this year.

The 14 and 15 classes were bad. The 16 class was a game changer. The 16 and 17 seasons had some rough moments because so many young players were forced into action before they were ready. That early experience is paying dividends now. Those guys are physically equal or superior to their opponents and have two years of game experience. I believe they can compete with any team in the B1G right now.

I have heard that Parker Hesse is the definitive player-leader on this team. He's the EF Hutton of the team. He has the eloquence and maturity of a guy in his 30's. They don't have a lot of seniors, but the ones they have a good leaders.

We are bringing in more talent in our recruiting classes and its the underclassmen and Juniors who are the main framework of this successful team. Certainly we are getting strong leadership from the few seniors we have. Think when we have several more seniors and the added leadership that should bring. Hesse is indeed the MVP of the team with his overall contribution. He has made a number or outstanding highlight tackles as well.

The best KF teams have excellent DLs - we're set at this position for at least two more years, right?

What's surprising to me is that Iowa's OL hasn't been "great" for a while. Even the 2015 OL wasn't great. At least, this is what I see. I wonder if maybe 2019 is set up for a year where the Hawks *COULD* have both an excellent DL and an excellent OL? Winning the trenches on both sides of the ball does wonders for a KF philosophy.
