This has been my thought since last season. Retherford is just too resourceful (and relentless) for a defensive, try-to-steal-one strategy to work -- unless he is having an off day.
Not only do I believe Sorensen would need to try to beat Retherford at his own game to have a shot at the victory, I truly wish he would give the strategy a shot. Seriously, how fun would that be to watch, regardless of outcome?
About as good as chance as we have getting KF changing from a running team to a good passing team. It won't happen. And BS can't change his style!
Prior to the Collica match Sorensen bonused 6 of his last 8. All were matches against D1 guys with winning records. He may be boring to some but he has not regressed.
Regressed? He's wrestled this way from day one. Not necessarily always fun to watch but he's done pretty good with his style. You are what you are and he gets that and isn't trying to be something he isn't.
Just watched a couple cowboys who weren't fun to watch and will bet I watch a few of Carl's fun bunch who surprisingly won't be fun to watch at Carver on Friday night even with their newly invented style of wrestling.
Boring occasionally yes. Regressed? he lost 1 match to the no.3 in overtime. we probably need to keep things in perspective no matter how disappointed we may be.

Should we assume Retherford is regressing as a wrestler too? Someone should let Cael know.
He needs to win for the gap to be closed. The match could serve as a booster for both guys. Sorensen was in it, he was right there and getting to his stuff and took down someone twice that nobody takes down. Rutherford gets the win, but the fact that he was that close to defeat before getting the takedown at the end of regulation could serve him well too. This match may do for Rutherford (I hope not) what I think OSU match did for Sorensen. I know Rutherford is your face, not backing off like other guys who just play defense against Sorensen.... But, two takedowns on Rutherford should calculate to more takedowns on everyone else not the old Sorensen that wins almost everything close. I hope he has turned the curve.

On our drive home from CHA, we listened to the post game. Brands was hard on some wrestlers but not Sorensen. He pointed out that Brandon was able to get his first two TDs against Zain and got out from the bottom. And it was the first regular decision for Zain all year.
Before last night, I would have never thought Brandon could beat Zane. However, I am cautiously optimistic about Brandon's chances. He's got to continue to work to close the gap but there's less daylight between the two wrestlers now.

Did anyone else catch Cael's post-meet comments? He said Zain wasn't feeling good..... Either that was an excuse for how close that match was or Zain really was sick in which case it makes you wonder if he'll clobber Sorensen next time...
I don't care if Zain was 83%, sick, got a bad report card, etc. That match should build confidence in Brandon. He CAN be a NC but he's going to need another TD. He's not going to win on the mat unless he "catches" Zain.
Catches him and the ref gives it to him. I remember watching Ramos put stieber on his back for a 3 count and not get points even after review
Brandon had the eye of the tiger last night. That's what he's gonna need every time if he's gonna beat Creed/Drago aka Zain.
Don't know what got into Sorensen, but he gave zero Fs who was across the mat from him. He wrestled to win.
Haven't seen anyone work Zain like that since Pico.
