Unfortunately, I will have limited access to follow along today(stupid real life responsibilities...). Hopefully, someone can step up again and give pbp.

Consolations start at 10am Central, semis at noon, conso-semis at 2pm.

Conso:

Henson/Gonyer
Kennedy/Fish

Semis:

Ayala/McKee
Schriever/Foley
Swafford/DeVos
Costello/Fernandes

On paper, looks like some stiff competition for the guys. Gonna be a great test for the young guys(and veterans). Looking forward to see how they perform.

Go Hawks!

Crazy scrambles going on in the match directly before Wyatts. Some really good mat wrestling. Scrambling has really impacted this sport.

Henson gets a double and a tough single leg. He’s up 4-1 heading into the second with 45 seconds of riding time. Which is quickly being erased. Henson chose bottom and hasn’t been able to work his way out. Henson hit with a stall warning. He’s flat and he’ll be ridden out The second period.

Wyatt has to do more on bottom. He based out from the start and didn't even make a move to get out. I know he was likely trying to stay compact off the whistle, but you have to put yourself in a position to escape.
He is horrible on bottom. If he can't make progress he needs to just avoid it if possible.

That’s what these tournaments are for. He’ll get better. Good news is, he appears to be a damn strong 141 for a freshman. When he gets to his double he finishes it pretty quickly. He also has pretty good success with his slide by, he’s got some craftiness on his feet. The bottom will get better.

Ayala vs. McKee

1st period:

Hand fighting. Ayala shoots a leftie single but blocked. McKee holds him in a front headlock but doing nothing.

SLICK slide-by by Drake. OOB. Up 2-0. 1:29 left.

Back to center. Drake riding tough. McKee into a sit and escapes. RT :24, :58 left.

Leftie single by Drake. McKee tries to roll but Drake covers. Up 4-1.

McKee to his feet and escapes. 4-2, :20 left.

Almost another slide-by for Drake. Gets to a single but no score. Period ends. 4-2, :35 of RT.

Some guys never get proficient, just saying.
Dude, is your new year off to a bad start or something?? A pbp/results thread is a weird time to remind people that sometimes wrestlers don't improve, especially when both backup freshman wrestlers we're talking about picked up solid wins. Maybe just wait until they've got half a season of varsity action under their belts before you tell us how there's no improvement???

2nd period:

McKee takes down.

McKee to his feet but Drake returns him. OOB. 4-2, RT 1:00.

Back to center.

McKee with a switch to a reversal. Drake out fast. 5-4, RT 1:16.

Drake looking much better this time than he did in their first meeting.

McKee in on his first shot but Drake fights it off. OOB.

Period ends. 5-4 Drake, RT 1:16.

3rd period:

Drake takes neutral.

Leftie single, lefts the leg. Down to the mat. McKee cuts the corner, hooks a leg, and gets the takedown. OOB. 6-5 McKee.

Back to center.

McKee putting on a hard ride. Drake struggling to escape. Can't get out. McKee wins, 6-5. Too strong.
