Spencer Lee wins Junior Freestyle World Team Trials

Nice write up Todd.

In addition to that, here are his stats from his previous two world title runs.

2015 JR Worlds
50 kg/110 lbs. – Spencer Lee, Murraysville, Pa. (Young Guns), gold medal
WIN Roman Gutsalyak (Ukraine), tech. fall 10-0
WIN Darkhan Kalkenov (Kazakhstan), tech. fall 12-2
WIN Roberti Dingashvili (Georgia), tech. fall 10-0
WIN Bhart Datil (India), tech. fall 12-2
WIN Ali Reza Goodarzi (Iran), tech fall 10-0

2014 Cadet Worlds --- I had a hard time finding the results of his matches at Worlds but here is an excerpt from Intermat article on his Cadet Gold medal.

"Lee, a Pennsylvania product, put on a dominant display at 50 kilos/110 pounds, picking up three technical falls and a fall while not surrendering a single point en route to the gold medal."


I think it is more than likely that he dominates his way to his 3rd straight world title. I would not be surprised if Lee is a 5x World Champ. 1x Cadet, and 4x Junior. Completely unprecedented.
 
I think Spencer, is not only the best recruit in Iowa history, but will probably will become the most accomplished high school wrestler of all time. The closest to Spencer (maybe ahead) was jimmy carr, he made a world team and olympic team in hs (not bad) ohh, he also won midlands while in hs (still not bad). But, while Jimmy was outstanding, he still would not be as good as Spencer in accomplishments imo. Now, we can talk about accomplishments vs outstanding, and the best hss I have seen are Alan Fried, Cary Kolat,Jeff McGinness,Mark Schawb, Mark Hall, Lincoln McIlravy,and Spencer Lee(I never saw carr,(gable claims carr is the best hes seen)((but whats he know))) Of the guys I listed, no-one has better credentials then Spencer. Some have better wins (for-sure hall, and fried) but as far as credentials go, Lees will not be matched. Why do I not have Snyder in this? I really have no idea, Im sure he should be in this list, but I must not have been following close enough at the time. But, I will say Spencer is the most important recruit Iowa has ever got. We needed a shot in the arm, we needed Gavin, we need to surround guys like Alex M , and Kaleb Young with guys that are prepared to win right now..... when Todd gives his, great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan....I think he is telling the truth! Sorry to all the great high school wrestlers I forgot and left off the list, but if you tech your way through worlds, i will take notice!

Same thoughts went through my mind when I first saw this screen shot of Spencer in black and gold. Gonna be a fun ride seeing him in Iowa City.
 
Great stuff as always Todd. Nice work. If anyone hasn't read Todds interview with Jacob Warner check it out. You'll get happy. Unless the kid does a major 180 come November, he's a hawk.

My amigo guns, nice to see you here. What's your point though? Lee has also beaten Suriano and I believe that was most recent. Besides, I'm sure Lee was injured, undersized, different style etc. in the match he lost so it really didn't count. ;):cool:;)

Both were skinny little kids at the time of their 2 meetings. Nick is going to be a horse at 125 for us - strong as bull. Fortunately he's coming to train in the summer because we need him to hit the ground running like Nico. Us landing Nick and you guys landing Lee really put a crimp in Ryan's recruiting plans as they were really hoping to allow NATO to move up.

Isn't 21guns the same guy on BWI that stated if Ruth's knee had not locked up against Amuchestegi that he would have won the match......FACT! That pretty much tells you all you need to know about 21guns, apparently there is fact to things that never actually took place. :confused: Edit - before he tells me it did happen........there is no FACT to a match that never fully played out!

21 - I'm a PSU fan and I enjoyed artradley's little joke about Suriano. And it's true - if you've seen him wrestling growing up, there's not a more surly SOB out there then Suriano anywhere near a wrestling a mat. I think artradley's from Jersey, so I'm sure he's seen him a ton.

Besides it coming off as the response of a simpleton, it's just pure troll and conveniently semi-factual (a phrase I just made up for selectively leaving out all facts in an argument). It compelled me to respond.

Come to think of it - it's possible that it is genius in it's ability to provoke a response with such brevity. Perhaps you should be lauded if this is the intention of your internet persona.

Dice, I seem to see the same kind of postings on PSU board about Chace Marsteller when he committed to PSU. There is no sure things even if they are that good (injuries, girlfriend, home sick, drugs, drinking and all the above)!

Herk: Ed was leading Mooch 2-1 at the time of the injury. There is little doubt that the injury led to the defeat. A healthy Ed, hammered Mooch 13-2 a year later, and it was not even THAT close.

Both Chickenman and Chief are correct a mundo...it was LONG ago. What happens from here on in, will begin to shape the rivalry, and it WILL be a rivalry....

The meet is on youtube. At the time of the leg injury, Ruth was ahead 2-1. The injury clearly affected the outcome of the match. After the match, the trainers put the knee back in place, and Ed finished third and hammered Lewnes. This is all a matter of record.

There is no way Ed loses that match without that injury.

We all know you are as crazy and they come, but is this match your personal obsession? It seems like you keep arguing this match on different boards. I think what happens is, you make a silly point, you get smacked down, so you use this as feedback and change your explanation slightly and try and argue it in a different spot, using new facts. You are the could -a, should -a, would - a champion. How many years ago was this match? Time for you to stop posting for a while so you can try and come up with something new to say. Doesn't have to be interesting, just new and different because Ed Ruth moved on and so should you. By the way, how much will Ed weigh in 2019?
