Spencer went under the knife today!

How many national champs have there been in last 5-10 years that have underwent acl surgery? Not posting anything negative about SL just looking for some perspective on any current or recent guys. Did Mark Perry have an acl tear at one time?

Didn't Mark Branch tear his ACL in 1996 against Weber then come back in 1997 after ACL repair and win it? I think that same year Molica tore his (pretty sure it was knee not sure it was ACL) earlier in the season and Weber beat him to get to the finals.

Have a speedy recovering Spencer. Rehab take your time so it heals the right way so you can come and destroy the opponent wishing you the best.

Not a national champion, but Josh Moore (yeah, yeah, PSU example) tore an ACL in Feb 2001 and went on to place 3rd and 2nd the following two seasons post-surgery. Again, not a national champion, but he did come back full-strength in under a year.

I believe Lee Fullhart tore his ACL as a freshman and then won it the next year as a sophomore. Fullhart's finals opponent was John Kading of Oklahoma who was a defending champ and tore his ACL during the NCAA tournament in Cedar Falls. I don't think Lee ever had his ACL repaired although I am not 100% certain on that.

Can't forget Kyle Ott from Illinois who had 19 knee surgeries on one knee and however many on the other and was a 2x NCAA runner-up. I saw him as a freshman in high school and he is by far the fastest wrestler I've ever seen. It was mind blowing speed.

Then all of those surgeries and he came back and noticeably lost a step and I still think was quicker than Nashon...how unbelievable is that?

One more example of a guy that came back strong (right under our noses in 2017) is Brian Realbuto. Tore both the ACL and MCL in his knee at Nationals last year, had off-season surgery, and was just one ill-advised elevator attempt from being a finalist this year.

Kading could barely walk until the ref blew the whistle, then he looked like a mongoose. I don't think Fullhart really had an ACL - apparently he did need it.

Branch tore his ACL, had surgery, and came back next year to win in 1997.

Speedy and complete recover to ya Spencer.

Did Gable ever have surgery on his bum knee after the olympics?

I believe so. And back then it was not arthroscopic surgery, but more invasive.

I read some time ago that Gable had most/all of a meniscus removed, so it was bone against bone after that. Long term it led to degenerative joint disease, affected his gait, and that in turn led to more wear and tear on his hip joints. I think he has had both hips replaced.
