you can’t always get what you want!
IF McCollum is the “choice” a friend who understands college BB business told me…
With McCollum's style of play, NIL $$ may not be as big a factor as some worry… His “control pace” BB brings in a different breed of cat…He compares McCollom’s style to Va’s Bennett where students wear T-shirts that state “Embrace the Pace”….
Once “wins” come in, it’s easier to fund raise…
One person’s opinion.

I have been trying to explain that to a certain poster on this board, but he “doesn't get it”.

Been thinking the same.

With our NIL we need McCollum’s style to compete. We can be very competitive with that style.

I think the Iowa fans/AD would be fine with taking the entire Drake Roster that has eligibility and then letting McCollum try to find a couple extra pieces in the Portal. The Iowa roster is currently empty, and we proabably have at least $4 million in NIL for next year.

The other programs like WVU and Texas that are looking for Name coaches---I don't think they would be thrilled to
take the entire Drake roster. Stirz by himself is a $1.5 million NIL player and Texas/WVU would take him...the rest the Drake roster, I think those schools want a coach that brings in 4-star/ 5 star players instead.

Same logic was used with the Todd L hire.
Butler used athletes iowa could get, etc.

True, but as it turns out the brains behind Bulter was Brad Stevens….Barta must have just read the headlines and then gave Lick a blank check…🥲
The real miss thar could have worked was alford.
He obviously has some personality things that are a negative but so do alot of coaches.
His window closed after the big 10 tourney championship. Still had half court offense issues then decided to use reggie as a go to. Should have told reggie the only way he’d get the ball was run the court open or get a rebound.
Neal came to late to save him then the Pierce mess did him in.

The Ferentz analogy probably isn't a good one. Sweet 16 is a reasonable goal every 2-3 years. You are probably going to have to beat some top-25 teams to do that. Ferentz hasn't done that in five seasons.

S16 every 2 or 3 years is "reasonable"? Pretty ambitious. Hawks have made it 5 times in 50 years.

Greg McDermott tried the controlled pace at Iowa State and things didn’t turn out so well.

I disagree that the entire drake roster could flourish in a 20 game BIG schedule.
TT bigs controlled this game and ruled the paint.
Those 8 BIG teams that won this weekend almost all have all have similar bigs.
The tourny is different. One and done.
Missouri did not adjust to pace and were not well coached. TT was well coached.

I like stirtz and maybe banks and Howard but we need better bigs to compete nite and nite out in BIG.
Maybe traore and tadjo can be trained?

Does Iowa tell any of the guys who jumped into the portal right away who may now want to come back, thanks for your service, but we’re moving on, your roster spot has been filled?

I don’t understand the urgency of declaring. With so many players still in the tournament, I don’t see many major schools jumping on anyone right now, but waiting to see their options. I’m sure some of the guys aren’t coming back, but for Sandfort and Koch, were they too hasty in their declarations? There’s no guarantee they can come back, I would presume.
