He said that it was extremely well organized. He saw many dufflebags filled with essentially military weapons. Said that his group of 6 guys (from California) were there to do whatever Trump wanted. If he had declared that he wasn't leaving office, they would have stayed in DC for as long as needed, joined his militia, and guarded Trump and the White House. Said that's what he and his group were hoping for.
He said they believed they were on a mission to save America. Said that it was Giuliani who got the crowd fired up the most to storm the capitol. The mission was to secure the actual official electoral documents before they could be certified. He believed that if they physically prevented that certification from occurring before midnight, then law would dictate that Trump remain in the White House. He recalls Giuliani saying that they were going to exercise "Jury by Execution" and that got him and those around him pumped up to take any action necessary. He said he was ready to kill people who stood in their way and he felt justified in doing that if needed. He recalls multiple people saying that they might have to eliminate the Vice President.
Once they got to the Capitol and he saw police officers being attacked, his feelings changed and he realized what they were doing wasn't right. He was inside, wouldn't tell me specifics of what he had done while inside, but when he emerged he came upon a police officer being beaten by a group of people. He got involved and with a few others got between the mob and the officer and fought/talked them back and escorted the officer to safety.
He was found and interviewed by the FBI and not charged. He believes it's because he helped that officer. He believes that the election was stolen and that Trump is our lawful President. I asked him specifically why he believes that and he said because Trump said so, that's it.
