Spring game tidbits

LOL…. It’s funny many of us feel the same way about reading a message board with people like you on it.

I just want them to have some authentic consistency and since I’ve clearly watched quite a bit more football than you…I know it can come from literally anybody if the light goes on!

Spencer Petras won’t be the first 4 or 5 year player that “it” goes on for and he definitely won’t be the last…

But hey, undoubtedly that yard work needs done!
Yes it does , When I throw a Family BBQ I do want the Yard to look nice . Never know who might show up.

that right there is the difference between 10-2 and 7-5/8-4
It really is if they don't get it right. The kicks seemed low all morning. 1 got blocked. Several were close.

Both kickers made the close ones (25-30 yards?), but together they missed all but one of the longer ones (35-40 yards?).

Granted, it was a windy day, and the wind was chaotic. That could account for the low kicks and some of the inaccuracy. But we will have wind like that in the fall.

I'm all for chances but SP has used them all up as far as I'm concerned, more than actually. Time to move on from him. Sorry if the truth hurts some "feelings" but enough is enough
The fact Spencer is still in the conversation for QB....good god. Dudes behind him must be AWFUL.

In other words: Here we go again with the weak QB play.

Uh....Padilla wasn't given no where near the chance to prove himself as SP has had. But here we go..let's give him another season to do it, good idea, Lmao
Got any better arguments than "uh, no"?

This has been rehashed over and over again, but even just comparing their first 3 starts to keep it completely fair, Padilla was statistically less accurate and had a lower QB rating than Petras. Look no further than his abysmal outing against Illinois and his bad first half against Nebraska.
Wasting your time, just block em. 2 biggest "fans" of our trash offense...
We all know reading comprehension isn't your strong suit and never has been. You should get your local taxes back since your education was clearly wasted on you.

This also coming from the guy who literally cannot admit when he's wrong and yet has to have an uninformed opinion on everything lol.

If Petras starts I will be doing alot of Yard work on Saturdays and just checking the box after Games because sharpening the mower blade is less frustrating than watching Him get dumbstruck in the pocket or knocking beers out of Fans hands in the 20th row on 4th down. I would rather see growing pains from a Player with upside than watch that episode of the Munsters again .
Does that mean we also won't be hearing you bitch on the site as well?

I have some observations.

1. Any competition for starting QB was over before this practice. Petras was the only QB who seemed to have an open playbook and he led our offensive 1s and 2s against our defensive 1s and 2s. Most of the scrimmage was Labas and Padilla leading 2s and 3s against defensive 2s and 3s. So...
2. The QB competition is really between Labas and Padilla for backup QB. It was one practice, and it looked pretty close, but I'd probably pick Labas based on this one practice.
3. Because Petras went against our 1s and 2s, he didn't put up great stats (I think our defense is going to be top 10 in the country). But his throws were about where they needed to be and he looked more comfortable in the pocket than last year.
4. Our field goal kicking got downgraded from a concern to a Problem that needs to be fixed by fall. It looked really bad, imo.
5. The brand new defensive ends this year (Crawford and Allen) looked big and quick. Our defensive line is stacked for years to come, I think.
6. Our defensive line as a whole looks really damn good and deep.
7. I thought the 1s and 2s OL competed well. They still got beat a fair amount, but I felt like that was DL excellence moreso than OL incompetence.
8. Higgins doesn't have a starting role this year unless someone is injured, but he will in 2023 and looks like he'll be good.
9. Griffin Liddle and Mike Myslinski were out of uniform on the sideline (as expected) but we're practicing snapping. IDK that I realized Liddle was a center candidate.
10. In the segments before the scrimmage, I was just watching the QBs warmup their arms and then throw route trees with the WRs. Petras had the strongest and most accurate arm by a good margin. I think Labas is next and I think there's a lot of separation between Labas and Padilla, too.
11. I thought I saw Labas doing what looked like some throwing elbow exercises on the sideline that made me wonder if he was practicing through a minor elbow tweak (tendonitis or something).
12. Tory Taylor is going to be ridiculous this year.
13. (Backup punter) Phelps isn't ready yet.
14. I thought the running backs looked good when they were able to move. Lol.

His won/loss record as a starter.

First three career starts.
Padilla 3-0 — 2 TDs / 1 INT
Petras 1-2 — 2 TDs / 3 INTs

2021, Padilla beat the 2nd place team (Minnesota) to help Iowa win the West. Petras’ abysmal numbers vs the other two 2nd place teams (Purdue and Wisconsin) didn’t help.

2020, Petras lost to Northwestern, which was the difference in 1st and 2nd place in the West.

Had Padilla's 2nd game performance come against a team like NW, and not a poor Illinois team, we absolutely would have lost.

I believe Petras’s record as a starter is better than 1-2.

Was he "pulled"? KF said he was injured and couldn't go.
He was pulled. He was definitely injured, but even then he started the game. When it became clear he wasn't up to snuff, they yanked him for Padilla, and gave him 3.5 games of run as the #1.

That was pretty clear considering Padilla started at Nebby even when Petras was healthy again.

Two different Minnesota teams as well. Didn’t seem to be an issue in Padilla’s first start.
You mean other than the two picks he nearly threw, or the sub 50% completion percentage?

And that's moot anyways, because yet again, he got worse as time went on. He followed up the Minny game with an abhorrent performance against Illinois, and was as a result pulled against Nebraska.

I don't really believe I bitch all that much, I tend to be more positive than negative but I have no problem pointing out bad performance or their solutions , like I pointed out to Your partner when She patroned My Sleepy Starfish Escort Service. I am a problem solver You see.

I was actually talking more about the two TDs he threw and another he ran in. That and ZERO actual INTs. I suppose we could play this ‘what if’ game all day long I’m sure.

You describe the Illinois game as abhorrent. How would you describe the Purdue and Wisconsin games?

It is all a moot point, but mainly because KF is going to play who he wants. I believe that is the player that the coaches think gives them the best chance to win. KF and his staff are right way more than they’re wrong, but they do get it wrong sometimes.
