Spring Scrimmage

What does everyone watch for?

I usually try to pay attention to true freshmen that are going to red shirt, and back ups. I just don't think you can tell a lot from watch 1 and 2 deeps at the spring scrimmage.

What am I missing? What are some things to look for?

Most of the true freshman won't be on campus until June. I think you watch for guys who haven't done much to distinguish themselves, come out in the spring and show they might be ready for some PT. Like Jake Gervase from last year with his three picks. Spring is a time for the unheralded to shine and I for one hope that light shines brightly for several underclassmen. It would be great to see some growth in the wide receiver and linebacking groups. Go Hawkeyes!

Any chance to get this in TV? Or is the BTN going to snub Iowa’s scrimmaging?

I look for the level of execution of the line-play. I also like to see how well the LBs fill.

On plays to the edge ... always look to the DE or the LEO ... and see if they're maintaining proper leverage. They need to always keep that outside shoulder free.

Normally I would look at the QB's - mainly arm strength and poise. Of course, not worried about Stanley, but it will be interesting to see the other two.
