Because he’s not going pro this year. This loss is singularly on his shoulders.
Given Iowa's history with quarterbacks, I have no reason to believe this. None at all.Because he’s not going pro this year. This loss is singularly on his shoulders.

Totally agree. Have rarely seen a Hawkeye QB improve year after year under KF.Given Iowa's history with quarterbacks, I have no reason to believe this. None at all.
I'd hoped you were wrong going into this game, but he absolutely shit the bed. Lesson learned last year, this year it's clear it's a psychology thing.Nate Stanley just doesn't have the ability to keep his composer in any pressure situation. That won't change with more experience.
Stanley is a big guy who has a strong arm, but will never be more than a Pinstripe Bowl caliber QB.
I'm not beating on the kid. He's a great kid.
But the fact is, he's a choker. He choked at Madison last year. He choked today.
Chokers choke. Sure, he'll have days, but as a long time athletic competitor I can say with total certainty that chokers choke. I feel for him, but this will happen again.
What do/did you compete in and at what level?
If you play sports, you are going to have bad days.I remember some clutch performances last year, but I’m only 69. If you’re older and have memory problems I apologize. The stage did seem to impact him today, but there are times when I’ve seen very good qbs have very bad games. He’s not NFL ready and may never be, but he’s a Hawk and IMO I respect what the kid has given the program so far.
Kind of like the talk of McSorley being a first round draft pick. He might get drafted in the later rounds. Not very accurate and average at best arm strength. No where near as athletic as a Mayfield. But he has won a lot of games and is a competitor.PSU fans are happy that your QB will be coming back. Hard to believe there is talk of him going pro. He looked flustered often, was not particularly accurate, and is not very mobile. Yes, a strong arm. But that does not make an NFL QB.
The fact is that college players do get better every year, and Stanley will likely be better in his decision making in 2019. I joke about PSU fans happy about him coming back, as an experienced QB is usually a must have for a team to get to the conference championship game.
You are never as good as you think you are when you win, and you are never as bad as you think you are when you lose. Stanley will win some games for Iowa before this season is over....

Basketball and golf. And I played golf at a pretty high level. Not to say I was great, but I had my moments. I also had my chokes and a few rare victories.
My point is that some guys can't think clearly in the heat. And if you have not been there, you don't get it.
It's also true that the venue and the competitors affect you. The fact Nate played bad in Wisconsin is a sign. I could never play well in my home town tournament. I'd say I'm a choker too. Takes one to know one.
And really, I love Nate. But man, that was awful. And I know he feels worse than any of us.
Well said.I think the term ‘choker’ is thrown around too easily. Sometimes people make mistakes. Every moment is too big for a choker, but I don’t think that is the case for Nate. The key for a player is to grow from each experience such that when the next big moment comes you are prepared.
To build in your golf call out (and I love golf), I think it was Jack Nicklaus who said that majors were the easy tournaments to win, but recognizing this is hard. The reason majors are easy to win is that most people press to hard to win them and take themselves out of contention by pressing when they shouldn’t. When you recognize that every drive is the same regardless of venue, it’s easier to hit that fairway. A play, just like a golf swing, is just a play. I think Nate is pressing too hard right now.
Stanley brought Iowa down the field twice in the fourth quarter, but in neither case Iowa scores. A choker likely doesn’t get Iowa past the 50 in either of this cases. Last year against Wisky, Nate looked like a deer caught in headlights. In this game he made some plays, just not enough of them and he missed some easy ones. I’m not throwing him to the trash heap because he knows this and I think he will get better.
On the first opportunity at the three, Iowa got the look they wanted, Nate recognized it, but the clock was running down and he showed poor judgment in rushing to get the play off before everyone was ready. If everyone was ready for the snap, young walks in. I think this is what Nate saw and he got a little greedy instead of taking the TO and living to play another down. This is correctable. Nate needs to learn this lesson. If he does, he will be very good going forward.
Jeff Christensen, is that you?Because he’s not going pro this year. This loss is singularly on his shoulders.
Nate seems to get rattled easily and once his confidence is shaken, there's really no getting him to rebound.
It's unfortunate because Mansell is not ready either. Waaaaay too erratic, and Kirk isn't gonna do that when he has a more veteran guy in Stanley
Pretty sure OP was being sarcastic. He hasn’t gotten better so far what makes you think he will by next year?
He played poorly and it was from the get go....put Mansel in for a series or two to wake Nate up or simply let Nate know if he ain't getting it done there is another option....Coaches have no problems doing this with other positions. Yesterday, I just felt the good coaching decision for everyone concerned was to give Mansel a chance to get us going on offense.
Is it disrespectful to speak the truth?I remember some clutch performances last year, but I’m only 69. If you’re older and have memory problems I apologize. I get your sarcasm here. Tell that to Iowa State. Their 3rd string guy is leading them on a resurgence this season. They were 1-3 before Purdy took over and they just completed a perfect October.Sorry. There's no such thing as a backup QB coming in and playing better than the starter, and giving the team a spark. Don't believe me? Just ask KF. He'll also tell you that if it turns out he's starting the wrong guy, there's a standard 1 1/2 season waiting period before the backup can take over.
