is he still giving starlink to putin too?
Careful, Hillary Clinton will be clamoring to cuff ya and toss ya in the clink for spreading disinformation.

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is coordinating with SpaceX to identify and disable Starlink satellite internet terminals that have been illicitly acquired by Russian forces for use in their invasion of Ukraine, a senior U.S. defense official told Congress.

During a May 21 hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s strategic forces subcommittee, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) pressed John Hill, the Pentagon’s deputy chief of space policy, on whether SpaceX has been cooperating to ensure Russian troops do not operate Starlink terminals obtained from black markets in violation of U.S. sanctions.

Hill said SpaceX, which is owned by Elon Musk, has been “more than cooperative” and “forward leaning” in working to identify terminals in Russian hands and turn them off.

“Not only has SpaceX been very cooperative with the entire United States government and the government of Ukraine, they’ve been forward leaning in identifying and providing information to us,” Hill told lawmakers.

Yes Starlink is active in the Ukraine/Russia war zone with shifting fronts. SpaceX is not responsible when bad actors buy/register the products in European countries and send them to the Russian military.

Sadly Ukrainian units have likely been killed and the Starlinks are stolen by Russian military units and used.

Of course it is more complicated and fluid than your small mind can comprehend.

You may also be interested to know Starlink / SpaceX has dedicated satellites in use by the US Military.

Dr Evil will bill the states, just like he has in Ukraine. Asshole.

SpaceX rendered hundreds of millions of dollars of services in Ukraine for free for months and the US government refused to pay anything to compensate them.

The US government sure paid Lockheed/Boeing/Raytheon for their services. Who is the bad guy in this situation?

It's so funny watching them fall over themselves finding reasons to hate on Elon. All for the grave sin of calling out the hivemind. You'd think they might have the self awareness to not act like cultists when called that, but alas, that is their nature.. sad.

Doesn’t seem like they are doing a very good job.

Pentagon says they're proactive.

Certainly nothing like the conspiracy theorists here allege.

Western tech in Russian hands is hardly a SpaceX issue, the only question is whether the people framing it that way are malignant, or ignorant:

But as the war reaches its two-year anniversary, export controls have failed to stem the flow of advanced electronics and machinery making their way into Russia as new and convoluted supply chains have been forged through third countries such as Kazakhstan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, which are not party to the export control efforts. An investigation by Nikkei Asia found a tenfold increase in the export of semiconductors from China and Hong Kong to Russia in the immediate aftermath of the war—the majority of them from U.S. manufacturers.

“Life finds a way,” said a senior U.S. intelligence official, quoting the movie Jurassic Park. The official spoke on background to discuss Russia’s evasion of export controls.

Some of the weapons and components analyzed by investigators were likely stockpiled before the war. But widely available Russian trade data reveals a brisk business in imports. More than $1 billion worth of advanced semiconductors from U.S. and European manufacturers made their way into the country last year, according to classified Russian customs service data obtained by Bloomberg. A recent report by the Kyiv School of Economics found that imports of components considered critical for the battlefield had dipped by just 10 percent during the first 10 months of 2023, compared with prewar levels.

This has created a Kafkaesque scenario, the report notes, in which the Ukrainian army is doing battle with Western weapons against a Russian arsenal that also runs on Western components.

It is an obvious problem, well documented by numerous think tank and media reports, but one without an easy solution. Tracking illicit trade in items such as semiconductors is an exponentially greater challenge than monitoring shipments of conventional weapons. Around 1 trillion chips are produced every year. Found in credit cards, toasters, tanks, missile systems, and much, much more, they power the global economy as well as the Russian military. Cutting Russia out of the global supply chain for semiconductors is easier said than done.

Nice gesture, but you still have to pay $350 for the kit though, right?

Plenty of people are buying/donating them to help the victims. Last I checked the Starlink hardware costs about $1000 to manufacture. They sell them at a loss to encourage adoption and expand the customer base. Then make it up over time with the monthly service charge. Selling at $350 they are losing $650 per unit. Should they give everything for free?

Where is the government? Where’s FEMA?

Like I said, it’s a nice gesture.

But it’s a value of $120 for the 30 days. Then you get converted to a monthly plan. And you’ve spent $350 to install.

So, while altruistic, it’s a great deal for Starlink as well.

So, they have to buy the unit and then they get the first 30 days free? And you think that's impressive?

Kits are being donated by many groups and businesses in the Southeast. Ben Shapiro Daily Wire and I believe Dave Ramsey have donated 200 kits.

Great idea. The damage is almost biblical.

You can also donate to Chef Andres and his World Central Kitchen efforts in the area.

I’m going to assert the value of communications far exceeds the price point of $120.

Find me someone cut off in the mountains who’ll say otherwise afterwards.

Selling them at a $700 loss and free service for a month, you know, “a scam.”

**** you St Louis Hawk you goddamn bum.
They’re not selling them “at a loss” just for Helene victims. I’m 1,500 miles away and I can buy a kit today for $299. Same as the Helene deal.

Again, it’s one month free. A nice gesture but let’s not act like there’s not a commercial angle here as well.

Billions for the Ukraine and the taliban.. $750 for flood victims in the US. Democrat priorities.. they learned nothing from the Maui fires. The dems care more about illegal migrants and even our actual enemies (Afghanistan) than us citizens in need. Every last member of this administration sucks!

Glad we gave all of our money to Ukraine. The current number is around $62 Billion
This is the root of the America first movement in two graphics.

Maybe the Republicans in the house should fund FEMA more.

It's not like the funds for Ukraine aid were drawn out of FEMA's budget. Even if the Ukraine war never happened FEMA would still be facing this problem.

Maybe we don't need to spend 841 billion a year on defense.
Maybe we don't need to spend a penny on defending nations that aren't the USA or even official nato allies.

Here's another thought: we spend 10 billion every year on soda as part of the food stamps program. Why not zero?

My opinion is we both defund both Ukraine and soda spending.

True. If we are going to let everyone in the country and bend over to everyone on the world stage, we might as well not have a military.

Oh please, we could drop that budget number to 300 billion and still have the largest military budget in the world.

I agree they could trim it. BUT, do you want a strong military or not when China comes calling for their money?

Strong but not what we have. We can always ramp up our military when needed. We did it during the last 2 World Wars. We where not a super power then because we generally kept a relatively small military for a country our size and GDP. After the WW2 we just kind of kept a big military all the time when everyone else started scaling back.

And I'm not worried about China directly attacking us. Taiwan sure. But the US? We have nukes, as long as we keep nukes we're invasion proof. Not to mention that logistically speaking the continental United States would be next to impossible to invade and next to impossible to occupy.

But we run around with 11 super carrier fleets. China has 2, India has 2, and the UK has 2. Everyone else has 1 or 0. And that's not to mention that our carriers are much better in quality. The UK's carriers for example run on diesel fuel. The Chinese run on steam turbines.
