He is playing well this year and is one of our best players right now, and needs to be on the court 35mins a game if not in foul trouble. Teams have to guard him outside now. The tough decision would be, he should probably start in place of PMac, whom could provide a good spark off the bench and play same minutes.

Are you talking in general or just until Kris and Ahron are healthy?

Btw, nothing personal, but if you don’t know how to correctly use whom, just don’t.

In general. I like PMac, but CMac is literally better at defending, rebounding, ball handling, passing, and even shooting is now a toss up between the two. PMac would be a good 6th man with his scoring and versatility.

Connor may be our second best overall player.
He keeps playing like this he may get a shot overseas somewhere.

CMac has clearly earned the right for more playing time, even starting.

the question is where? and who’s minutes does he take? And with what player rotations?

You do realize he started the last 2 games right?

Connor has been playing great and I'm hoping that he continues to do that,.. But I'm also hoping that him starting doesn't become the norm...

It wasn't until i got into my seat yesterday and they announced that Bowen was starting so has anyone heard what the issue is with Ulis?. If Kris has plantar faciitis and that's all then with the sports medicine at the U of I he should be back by the 29th for the road game at Nebraska. That is 23 days and i heard 3 to 4 weeks which hopefully is correct. PF is normally a calf issue according to a friend who is a doctor that i talked to today.

I like Connor coming off of the bench, mainly subbing in for Pat, but also to plug in wherever necessary depending on matchups, other players struggling etc. He can still play starter minutes in that capacity plus it gives Fran flexibility.
I think Connor should start as we are better defensively and tougher. He is just playing too well to not be out there most of the game. Starting at the 3 is the only option to make the team better defensively. As I stated above, Patrick could provide valuable offense off the bench and give us consistent scoring(which we have not had) off the pine. He too could play starter minutes.

Ulis took a hard fall in the ISU game. I believe he has a hip contusion.

Fran isn’t sending his 2nd leading scorer to the bench.

He hit the floor hard in the 2nd half of the ISU game. Not surprised if he has a bruised hip at least

I like Connor coming of the bench primarily because that means that the other necessary players are healthy and playing well...

If any of the starters are struggling he can come in and change the flow of the game because he brings a different skill set and physicality.

I've been very impressed with his defense at the 4.

He played the 4 three seasons ago and did pretty well but now he's an adult playing against kids and just pushing them around.

I like it.

I am a firm believer in;
A. Play your best players the most you can
B. Defense wins championships

Therefore, I would starting Connor the rest of the season at this point. No need to discuss any further, as I will be cheering for the Hawks either way. However, with my beliefs it can be frustrating at times with Frans coaching style.

If the second leading scorer doesn’t do much on the defensive or rebounding end, and that end causes all of Fran’s issues….

Patrick’s rebounding has improved year over year. He needs to remain consistent and, probably more importantly, aggressive on the boards.

Also, I find it pretty funny that the same people who literally wanted Connor tossed off the team last year are now his biggest fans. I’m not going to post receipts but you know who you are.

While you're not entirely wrong, I would point this out: Connor of two or three years ago is not the Connor of today. For one, he's a sixth-year senior now and, under normal circumstances, might be a grad assistant. But normal hasn't been around for awhile, so here he is, in his sixth year of competition, and he's making the most of it.

The younger Connor was a liability on offense. He had no shot. He simply could not score, which is OK in certain circumstances, but that was definitely an issue. But since late last season, Connor has turned from an offensive caterpillar into a butterfly. So it makes sense that as Connor's game has improved, so have the fans' opinions of his performance.

That basketball guru Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." As you know, that means it's dumb to stick to your opinion in the face of evidence to the contrary. So smart Iowa fans who may have criticized Connor before would be fully justified in changing that opinion now because the evidence has changed.

I've always greatly appreciated Connor's competitive spirit, his chip-on-the-shoulder attitude, his toughness. Iowa basketball needs at least a few guys like that every season, and Connor has never backed down from that role. But now he's not only tough, a great passer and ball handler, rebounder and defender, he has developed an offensive game that must be respected. I hope he continues to have a great final season. The Hawkeyes need him if they intend to have a successful campaign. The new Connor is one heckuva of a player.

Understood. But we wouldn’t be seeing the improved Connor if the posters here had their way. He would have already been gone.

This is like the 3rd or maybe 4th version of Connor.

The original pg version could score a bit.

Then once Garza emerged JBo was the pg and Connor just wouldn't shoot and became an entry pass specialist, which was sort of ok since you had a dominant scorer.

Last years Connor was a huge liability to start the year because he still wouldn't shoot and it reached a head when Brad Underwood choose to not even guard him.

Since then he accepted the need to shoot when open and now he's shooting when not wide open and even forcing his way to the hoop.

Its been one of the strangest progressions of a player I can remember.

This version is healthy and a capable shooter and has now decided to be a bully too lol.

It's kind of incredible.

I played with plantar facitis for a year.

I never really felt it after a few minutes of running, all the pain was afterwards and especially the next morning it was legitimately hard to walk for an hour or so. Kind of like a knife in the heel.

I can't imagine missing games for it thought.

I can see him jumping right in to coaching. I don’t know what type of teacher he’ll be but knowledge won’t be a problem.
I agree, and think this is Connor's plan. Watch the huddles where he can be seen with a white board. Or his more "coach" like way he interacts with the officials.

He's been around long enough to be completing grad school. Do they still have graduate assistants? If so, he could get a doctorate in something and then hit the carousel looking for an assistant position, preferably at a good defensive school. You never know but I think Connor has the makings of an outstanding coach.

You're going to put our second leading scorer on the bench? Great idea if you can talk all of our opponents to do the same.
Its almost like 6th men cant be great scorers. Oh wait never mind signed Manu Ginobili, Jason Terry Jamal Crawford, Kevin Mchale, etc. Yes I realize those examples were all from the NBA but that is only because in college there is weirdly less celebration of 6th men. But nothing precludes college 6th men from getting 30 minutes a game.

You can add Larry Bird (for most of a season) to that list.

CMac has been great this year. Rebraca has been a beast and Kris is Kris. I think the biggest challenge for Fran will be balancing the other two spots and minutes. Some nights it might be Tony and Sandfort. Others it could be PMac or Dix or Uhlis. Just depending on whose playing well like Sandfort and Tony did last night.
