Gessell- much as id like to see williams its not happenning.
Jok
Baer/uhl
Uthoff
Wagner

Clemmons and gessell just ain't working. Can't have to guys that can't score playing together. Come on Fran! Get with it or be one and done.

MG
Baer
Jok
JU
Woody

Anyone but AC. Let AC come off the bench and play great like he did last year. Sit MG the final 3 minutes of each half.

Woody had started every single game of his entire career.

So Baer plays one good stretch of 4 minutes and all of a sudden he's starter caliber? Same for Wagner... I'm sorry but this lineup makes no sense. Woodbury has been one of our best and most consistent players this season.

Fan 76, please provide your credentials for advising everyone who should be starting. It is difficult to consider the comments of anyone who has difficulty using properly the word to, too or two.

wagner needs to take at least 15 of woody's minutes. Woody should be playing 25 minutes tops.
Woody may get some rebounds but he is a senior that can not make baskets. How many 10-15 foot shots has he hit this year? How many back to the basket moves has he made? He is relegated to wide open shots from 2 feet or diving to the basket on screen and rolls.

give it up.... it's a basketball message board. If proper english were a requirement in basketball, it would be in a sad state of affairs.

1. Williams
2. Ellingson
3. Jok
4. Uthoff
5. Wagner

Screw it, let these guys play and see what happens. Bench Gessell, Woody, and Clemmons. Make them earn it and sit on the bench to start. These guys are no-shows in several big games this year.

I like it but I'd definitely play Williams

I agree with benching Clemmons. My starting 5 would be:

Woodbury 5
Uthoff 4
Baer 3
Jok 2
Gessel 1

First person off the bench would be Wagner, Williams, Clemmons, Uhl

How could any five do worse than the regular five have done the last several weeks? Loss after loss after loss until now there's nothing else to lose. But Fran will stubbornly stick with his guys and go down with the ship, which has been taking on water since Penn State. One and, mercifully, done, so that's reality.

But in a dream world where there is some accountability and effort is rewarded, the NCAA starters would be:

Jok
Uthoff
Wagner
Baer
Williams

I think that group would actually give Iowa a chance to win if they all played at least 30 minutes.

I think that group might come out with its hair on fire and act like they had some heart, like they enjoyed what they were doing, like they actually were willing to do whatever it took to win.

That's all I've ever asked of any Iowa team. Just play hard. This Iowa team--the regular starters--is softer than a Carver ice cream cone, and they have consistently shown about as much energy, enthusiasm, and effort as a cat on a sunny windowsill.

What a miserable finish to what had been a miracle season only moments ago. But then that's what they mean by "no guts, no glory."

Why is Williams all the sudden the savior? The kid is a unranked 3 star freshman who has barely played this year but because he had one game where he scored 8 points all of the sudden he is a starter who is gong to make Iowa start winning again? Come on people.

David1979, you asked about Williams. Here's a short answer: Because he couldn't do worse than the other options. And he's a freshman. The other guys are seniors. And he has some natural ability the other options don't. That's about it. And, not to quibble or anything, but I don't recall anyone suggesting Williams would be a savior, only that it's time to give somebody else a chance. After all, the Soukup twins would likely do better than 2-22...or a random person from the 33rd row. Oh, yah, and then there's that thing about the 17 turnovers...

True up to the last 3 or 4 games, where the only thing he is contributing is rebounds. His supposed calling card, defense, has been noticebly lacking.

PG MG
SG AC
SF PJ
PF JF
C AW

The key is to pull and substitute early and often Uhl, Baer, Wagner and Williams.

Set starters down if they have no energy, drive, ambition or are sideways and off...

All of the bench and young guys have at times over the year showed they can deliver some energy and winning ways, give them a chance.... why not?

PS: In the meantime go to some pressure 3/4 quarter defense early in the game to spark the team when needed, do not wait until the last 2 or 3 minutes when way behind.

Baer has been playing well all year, what have you been watching?

You think Gesell is the savior? If you don't have a large enough sample to know by now u should move on. Williams should def get some minutes w the other starters. I'd like to see this group get some run:

Williams
Jok
Uhl
JU
Woody

PG....a blind monkey
SG....Jok
PF....Uthoff
SF....Betty White
C......a shoe

I say this is just as good as our regular line up.

I like where you're going with this.

Off the bench you could have: A tuna sandwhich subbing for the monkey, A ficus plant at center, Olympia Dukakis at SF(none of the other "Golden Girls" still living).

Oh, and maybe give Williams, Wagner, Baer, and Uhl a few token minutes.

Changes to the back court definitely need to be made, but its not going to happen till the season is completely over. Not in a million years with Fran at the helm. Btw, I bet the Soukop (sp?) twins could do a lot better than 2-20 shooting and make their ft's.

The problem is that MG, AC, and Woody are three of our best defenders, but three of our worst offensive players.

The starting lineup won't change, and that's not really what's important, but hopefully they are on the court allot less than usual.

I've defended them in the past but at this point they've blown just about every opportunity they've ever had.

Play them for the first 4 minutes and if they aren't playing significantly better on offense they should go to the bench and become subs.

We lost 6 of our last 7? The lone win vs Michigan, Uthoff carried the team and Michigan missed a ton of open looks from 3pt line.

Fran needs to grow a pair and find some bench time for Gesell/Clemmons/Woody. Agreed, you can't do worse or fold any more often.

CW
Jok
Baer
Wagner
Uthoff

This is are best lineup & not even close.
You have 2 6'6 guards instead of 2 6'1 guards.
Baer is a good shooter and hustles for 50/50 balls.
Wagner is a athletic beast and Uthoff can do a lot of dmg. inside and outside.
