Kind of curious when we will hear some info? I would imagine for the first exhibition game it will probably be Woodbury, Uthoff, Jok, Clemons, and Gesell

I still like the idea of and think there's a possibility to bring Clemmons off the bench to bring some experience to that second unit. Maybe have Fleming start at the 2 but Clemmons still likely gets more minutes.

Agree. Think these are certainly the most likely starters. After Clemmons' recent statements in the Press Citizen, it's going to take some doing to keep him out of the top 5 in minutes.

Minutes played will be more important, and I think Sap will be in the top 5. I hope that a few of the new guys are ready enough to get more than a few minutes, so the starters can average 32 min or less.

Starters on Thursday night are expected to be what you would think: Woody, Uthoff, Jok, Clemmons, Gesell.

The starters need to average a lot less than 32/game, or we are having issues. With the exception of Uthoff, of course. He can play as much as physically possible during non-in-the-bag games....

what is your reasoning? Why should a guy like Gesell average 'a lot less' than 32min per game as you suggest? I want Gesell on the floor as much as possible, perhaps just a couple minutes rest each half, worked around timeouts. Same applies to Woodbury...if he isn't in foul trouble, the big man is going to be on the floor as much as he can physically handle.

Getting the young players minutes is important, but secondary to winning games in my opinion.

I think game-experience is much more important in football than it is in basketball. Since football is such a physically demanding sport, it is difficult to simulate game-reps in practice. Football scrimmages lead to too many injuries for it to be practical to do more than a few times a year, which is why practices typically are set up as a series of drills. On the other hand, in basketball you can scrimmage just about all year long which provides quality experience for players even if they do not get into live games.

I'm not suggesting live-game experience is not important, but if you look at a team like Wisconsin you see a team that plays its five best players for 90-95% of the game. And every year they get new people that step up and be major contributors even though they received little playing time in the previous year.

I think we have a lot of talented players on this year's team, however, I think this is the biggest gap among players that we have had since Fran started, in terms of player experience. I would not be surprised if our starting upperclassmen receive a larger percentage of playing time than starters typically have received in the past.

What I am most interested in is how the rotation of Gesell and Clemmons will work. They are our only two experienced PG's and I would think that we would want at least one of them in the game at all times. I imagine both of them will start, Clemmons will be the first to come out, and each of them will receive just one break per half.

Because if our starters are needed on the floor that much, then that constitutes that the rest of the team essentially sucks ass... That not only spells doom for the season if we have one injury, but maybe more importantly, it means we will have a very good chance of having a S team next year.

Just replying to the questions. I think we have plenty of talent on this team, including players other than Woody & MG.
