The Sailor and family are going to take a three hour tour of Starved Rock park this Sunday.Looking for dining options in the Lasalle/Peru/Oglesby/Spring Valley area.

Thought about just going to Rip's in Ladd for the chicken. It's been on my radar, but have never had it work out to go there.

Well?

Rips chicken is a no-brainer, IMO.

There's a place in Utica that we came to love when we lived in the area. It's called The Cajun Connection, owned by a guy who is from New Orleans and fled the area after going through a messy divorce and landed there.

It's the kind of place where if you're unsure about what to get, he'll pick for you or encourage you to try a new recipe he's working on, and if you don't like it, there's no charge and he'll cook you something else. Great etoufee and gumbo.

If the weather was a little warmer, I like eating outside on the veranda at the Lodge; the menu is pretty limited out there, though (basically a few sandwiches and burgers). Never eaten in the main dining room inside but it looks cool (all wood).

Thanks for the info.I'll report where we went Sunday night.I am on vacation so I might justr drink my supper.

Just asking, but, don't you live in the Quad Cities? It's 90 miles to Starved Rock. How slowly do you drive, or are you stopping to go antiquing along the way?

You are correct.I had to divert for a bit for Mrs Jerry's mothers cemetary visit. It's not that far and we didn't really find anything of note for dining. We did cruise on up to Ladd for chicken but it was going to be a 2 hour wait.
The Sailor is not waiting 2 hours to eat a breast and a wing.

I love Starved Rock. I stop there once or twice a year, usually on my way back from Chicago to see the Cubs. It's a great stop off for a hike.
We've stayed at the water park and I think the name of the restaurant we liked was Skoogs, in Utica. We ate at Duffy's once, and it was okay. Just okay. Better than the resort food.

Another decent option for a no-frills meal in the area is (or at least was) Igloo's, on the west end of Peru. Real good pork tenderloins.
