IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa sophomore heavyweight Sam Stoll will miss the remainder of the 2016-17 season with a torn ACL, the UI wrestling program announced Friday. The Kasson, Minnesota, native was 7-2 this season and ranked No. 8 in the country.

The third-ranked Hawkeyes (7-1) host second-ranked Penn State (7-0, 3-0) on Friday at 8 p.m. The dual is broadcast live on BTN.

Damn! Well, looks like it answers the question on whether or not the Bull needs to wrestle now.......start packing on the pounds;) but seriously though, feel horrible for him

That ends any hopes at the National title let alone a win the meet tonight. Add to that the missing guys at 165. Hope he recovers and comes back strong next year. A real bummer.

Uhgg, that sucks. Aside from the fact that our titles chances went down the drain. Two straight torn ACL's is not promising for the future. I wish Stoll a good recovery, and hope like hell he can make it back 100% healthy at some point!

FWIW, I see it the same way ^^. Man, I just hate hearing about these types of injuries no matter who it is. All of the effort and sacrifice that goes into being a top level D1 athlete and then POOF...out of action due to injury.

Starting in 10 minutes let us pull Marinells shirt. He's a bull for God's sake. Weigh in with 10 lb ankle weights.
JMO IMO fakity

Surely Stoll is a candidate to receive a hardship waiver that's 2 season ending injuries. That absolutely sucks to hear. Iowa has had terrible luck with injuries the last 5-6 years
He would have to miss all of next season too, which in all honesty, might be the best course of action. Then he would have 2 years of competition in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons. Both seasons having better teams than the 2017-2018 team. As long as he is able to rehab back to 100%.

Feel terrible for Sam. Good kid with some bad luck. Needless to say this is really bad news for the hawks.

Maybe, Sammy can get a 6th year now. I'm not sure the medical redshirt rules, but I thought if you were injured two years in a row you qualify. Anybody know if he qualifies?

Stoll likely won't be eligible for one. The rules specifically state that if he's competed in any date in the second half of the season, which Oklahoma State counts as being in (9th of 16...National Duals doesn't count, but B1Gs does), he wouldn't be eligible for one. Unless they're going to interpret the rules differently, anyway.

He did wrestle in the BTT and NCAA tourney last year. He may have been injured already but he did wrestle.

Who knows how the NCAA really determines these things as it's not always by the letter of the law.

Dam feel so bad for Sam.
Hawks just have so much bad luck lately with the injuries.

Not saying he would be eligible, but I doubt he is, but I think you're referring to 5th year "medical redshirt" rules which are different.

That is a shame he seems like a great kid and to lose two seasons to injuries especially when positioned to be AA just sucks

HAMNEGGS, I noticed last weekend that you "are in the know". (Not saying that just became the case last weekend... only saying that I just realized it). If what you posted above before removing it is true, man...... absolutely sucks. Feel like throwing up.

Thankfully, no, it does not pertain to any other Hawks. I know nothing and am as far from an insider as you could get, so I certainly won't speculate any further. I will lose sleep tonight though, as will most Hawk fans I'm sure. Hate it for Sam Stoll.

Sincerely sorry to hear that. I hope that he is able to fully recover and compete at his best. Hate to see this.

Paging Steveson....

This isnt good for the future at all. ACLs are bad enough on small guys but on heavies even worse.
