Strange as it sounds, losing 2 games in this tourney helps our OOC SOS

Bear with me here and no I'm not saying I'm glad Iowa lost or that losses are good...BUT now Iowa gets to play 2 ranked teams and a soon to be ranked team in Dayton. Playing Monmouth wouldn't help anyone's RPI like playing Notre Dame/Wichita St would, even if we lose those games. I think the Selection Committee looks at "good" losses more favorably than they do wins against (no offense) no name schools like Monmouth or even Alabama. Esp. when those losses were reasonably close. I'd rather Iowa win every game they played but IMO this is a bit of a silver lining.

Without a proper win total as well as meaningful wins, SOS (or lack of it in our case) will be irrelevant.

Last year the Hawks lost to Texas and Syracuse, but had the marquee out-of-conference win against North Carolina. Will that happen again this year? Looking pretty tough at this point. I'm so tired of losing to IA State, but don't really like our chances in that game.

This is the reverse of where we were a few years ago.

The committees backward logic is that's it's somehow better to lose to good OOC teams than beat average ones.

Whatever, it's stupid but it it will work in our favor this year.

I think the B1G schedule will determine our NCAA fate, and it's pretty simple.

9 wins or more and we are in.
any less and we are out.

Agree. 9 wins in conference looks like the bare minimum they'll need. Doesn't look to be a signature non-con win this year.
Hopefully they can take a page from isu football and keep it closer than it should be against the 'clones.

I think both the Marquette and Wichita St. wins will continue to look better as the season goes along. I think both have the potential to be top 50 ish road and neutral wins.

I think by seasons end (Dayton, ND, WSU, Marquette) are all going to be near or in the top 50. Splitting those games helps. Marquette and WSU will get better as the year goes along. Dayton and ND will be for sure Tournament teams and top 25 possibly.

If the hawks don't have any "bad losses' in the OOC schedule they will be fine.

Totally agree, better to play quality teams from an RPI perspective. Monmouth is likely to finish 100+. Wichita may continue to struggle by their standards but could still wind up with 23-25 wins. I don't see us beating ISU, same as any sane fan. But sweeping the rest is very doable and would keep us on track. I think we need at least 10 wins in the Big Ten, though because the conference is taking a big RPI hit in the middle class with all these bad losses.

I would rather go 3 and 0 against Dayton, Monmouth, and Xavier than 1 and 2 against Dayton, Notre Dame, and Wichita St and that 1 win being against a very shorthanded Wichita St team.

Any day of the week.

Yes they were shorthanded, but they will get healthy and they will be a top 25 ball club by years end. That will be a "good" win in the comittee's eyes Even without their "studs".

I realize that it wasn't the turnout everyone wanted, but Iowa did get to play 3 quality opponents. I mean if anything it will help them moving forward in the non-conf. The thing that I came away most impressed, is Iowa has some shooters. If they all can get "hot" one night, this team could out shoot and beat anyone.
