There are some sayings that make us nod our heads, or laugh and we may even be guilty of repeating them. But upon sober reflection, they are actually stupid.

Here are a couple of my favorite stupid sayings. What are yours?

You get what you pay for.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

"I wonder what the poor people are doing today" Had an uncle that would say that all the time while sitting by his pool. Just dumb.

Live your authentic life.

Well, of course everyone should live their life authentically - and what that means and how to do it is worth discussing.

But it seems as if the only people who use that language are those who just made some dramatic and socially controversial change in their lives. As though those of us who just muddle through as a "regular" person can't possibly be authentic.

Let's call a spade a spade. Never understood the reference and seems racist. But I still hear people say it.
Also a lot of "at the end of the day" in the corporate world.

Some from the construction world.

“You don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground”

“You couldn’t pour water from a boot if the instructions were on the heel”

“If it was easy, anybody could do it.”

“Try hitting it with your purse next time”

“If you don’t like the speed I’m working at, you really won’t like my other speed”

“You’ll have that on big jobs”

“It’s your world man. I’m just living in it”

Let me caveat on what the Colonel is saying

And yes, that's a direct quote from multiple staff officers and yes, I wanted to strangle every single one of them. I threw something at one of them (he was my boss and I'd told him the next time he said it, I would throw something at him)

These are excellent. Should be taught in school, except for the purse one.
