Swarm: Now Able to Designate Donations of Any Amount to WBB

This should be pinned to the top of the board for a period of time. Iirc, remember people were complaining and rightfully so that they had to spend like $1000 before they could designate a sport. Never thought they'd drop it to any amount. This has to be a flood gate opener for the women's program. I'd like to know breathed this into existence. They deserve a pay hike. It's critical for this to happen to the women's program now.

Here's why!

It's behind a paywall. May need to disrupt loading. This is an extensive article regarding NIL.

How NIL money is paid to college athletes

Hot takes:
"What we found
The Post used public records laws to request NIL records from 56 public universities in major college sports conferences. Though most schools refused to release any information, reporters ultimately obtained and analyzed records encompassing $125 million in deals from 14 Division I public schools.

The result is an unprecedented look into the first three years of the NIL economy — a period of financial chaos, legal confusion and secret deals in the fierce competition for top players. The documents, which provide details on roughly 22,000 individual NIL transactions, reveal:"

"How booster “collectives,” run mostly by men, distribute the majority of NIL funds to athletes in men’s sports."

"In records that categorized NIL income by sport or gender, only 18 percent of the total value of all payments went to women."

"The women’s team disclosed $435,000 from NIL, the records show, while the men’s team reported $4.8 million.

At the 12 schools that provided NIL data categorized by sport or gender, men outearned women $92 million to $19 million. At Texas A&M, 98 percent of all money earned from disclosed NIL deals from July 2021 to February 2024 went to men’s sports, according to the records."

"With more limited NIL opportunities, the women of college sports have had to find other ways to raise their income."

If I was ever going to contribute it would be to women's bb. Probably still won't. The university should take scholarships away and pay them some other way. The schools are making all the money from the athletes, let them pay the players somehow

Yes, this is true. You can designate any amount of money to ANY sport you want.

While the date is not definitive....I believe that starting soon (maybe as soon as Dec 1), you will be able to also designate whether you want your donation to count for priority seating (non-deductible) or whether you want it to just be a deductible charitable expense.

Either way really helps us be competitive. Lucy is one of the highest paid student-athletes on campus for a reason...she's really really good, and it wouldn't be possible to get her if not for the help of people like you. So thank you for your help.

The Swarm makes a huge difference for Iowa. The Swarm strongly supported the players from their last two WBB Final Four teams. Join the Swarm and tell your friends the same, you can make a big difference. Thanks Brad for helping make Iowa WBB that much stronger.

Reach out to the Swarm at the site below. They can answer any questions and will point you in the right direction. Swarm is one of the best run organizations, of all NIL's, in the country.
