I don’t remember what thread this was in where we were talking about it. I honestly don’t think it was the game thread and I didn’t have the desire to look very hard.

But I expected Jan to move Kylie onto Syla in the fourth quarter and I was actually looking for that Purposefully, but apparently I must not have been paying close enough attention 😜 because someone told me that she did switch her so I went an watched.

She absolutely did switch and she shut her down, made her work her ass off to even get the ball… to the point when Kylie was looking backside to help on the interior. Syla got a couple clean looks but got off, hurried tired shots.

So 6-1 Olivia Olson who averages 16.3 had seven and was only able to get off nine shots total, while guarded by Kylie & then in the 4th, Syla, who actually torched us, got the Kylie treatment and only had 2.

Honestly, we need to appreciate this girl while she’s here. Scorers get all the accolades, but this girl is incredible!

Well said. Excellent observations. I'm one of those who, when I played, focused on defense, passing, and rebounding. Points were great, but they were my last consideration. So I appreciate people who understand the game beyond scoring, and there's no doubt Kylie has given every ounce of energy and effort she has on the defensive end. She doesn't get the credit for it, but I would suggest she may be a better defender than even the excellent Gabbie Marshall.

For my money, you can't give Kylie too much credit for the brilliant job she's done all season, and she's really focused right now. This Iowa team deserves a few breaks in March, if they get them, look out . . .

Like I said in a previous thread. She is the women’s basketball equivalent of an NFL shut down corner.

I loved Gabby Marshall… But remember, they didn’t ask Gabby to do too much. She sat on the perimeter, knocked down threes and she handled the ball pretty well. She did not drive to the basket and she wasn’t asked to do near as much as Kylie has been offensively with the ball handling. She was an under appreciated, maybe even elite defender based on what she did on several players, including Paige.

Point being this, Kylie has some flaws and we’ve all seen them, and I don’t anticipate those flaws ever changing much. She turns the ball over, she makes some poor decisions and she’s not near as good an outside shooter as Gabby…..

With all that said Gabby was 5-9 and a very good athlete. Kylie is 6 foot with super long arms and she is an ELITE athlete, with the seeming ability to be able to run all game long.

She also is tasked with bringing the ball up sometimes and finding a way to get to the hoop and get some junk baskets all while guarding the team’s best player who is almost always 6 foot plus.

They would’ve never asked Gabby to guard a 4 or likely anyone in the 6-2 range and as far as I’m concerned, I realize JuJu still had 27 points against us, but she is as strong and physical, a 6-2, player as there is in college basketball and Kylie harassed the living hell out of her.

She’s yes, she better!

Great observations. Kylie has gotten stronger Her D has always been good but now at a different level. Her length separates her from Gabbie, who was terrific
She is consistently getting better with the basketball as the game slows down for her
Hopefully JJ can convince her to come back at be a great mentor for the younger kids!!

With the ball on the perimeter covered one-on-one, if she gets half a step on the defender, KF has shown outstanding ability to drive all the way to the hoop and often finish with a bucket. She can also knock down 3s but is streaky. All of this to say that she is a legitimate 2nd or 3rd option on offense.
