Takeaways from Kinnick

good:
We have a TON of talent at RB. We are as deep as I've seen in the last 20 years.
Kickers and Punter all looked above average.
Concessions stand workers were very nice and helpful
JVB looks quicker, monster year coming.
Anthony Nelson is a beast. He is HUGE.
Picture perfect day at Kinnick.

Bad:
D looked played too conservative, TO's bailed them out.
Too many free shots on CJ. He won't survive 12 games if this isn't fixed.
Music is way too loud. A lot of kids holding their ears. Less treble more bass.

Overall it was a amazing day in Iowa City. It was my first game in a few years and went with my dad for the first time since the 90's.

also ..... who is JVB? ...You probably meant Matt VB. I agree, looks to be on track for another 65 recpt season, maybe more. It appears JSmith is making strides but if MVB goes down reliable WR targets vanish and defenses will go back to stacking 7 players close to the LOS to stop the run. Scheel appears to have the durability of Moeaki who was 100% maybe 1/2 the games he played as a Hawk.

Nice story about your dad. That's what its all about.

James Vadenberg, a kinda meh quarterback from 2009-2012. But, he's gonna have a monster year this year!

BTW this game was basically a repeat of the Purdue game last year.......minus the snow.

sound system seemed to be just plain weird. However, it is way-way-way better than those horrible commercials from days gone by.. I think the delta dental cam thing is gone.There were times when the sound system sorta had Tourette's
like symptoms and would blurt out random music. I had visions of the control guy leaning on a button and then struggling to push the "cancel" button...

I know. I love loud music but it just drowns out everything. You can even talk to the person next to you. If I was going to a rock concert that's expected but for a football game it's a bit much.

Jerminic Smith looked very good. First time I remember recognizing a wide out for a standout game as a blocker.

Defense was not good. Despite the continually lame "vanilla defense" argument, the D was just plain sub par. Playing a bottom dweller in the mac should mean winning at nearly every position straight up man on man. That did not happen.

Did not see any blitz packages at all today. Defense will be more aggressive when needed. I thought Hockaday looked very good today but he lacks Jewell's ability to call our defenses.

I expect we will be much tougher against the run next week.
