Team title favorite?

I hope those teams think that way. Iowa has just as good a shot as anybody to win it all. It's going to be an interesting meet and imo any one of 5 or 6 teams have a legitimate shot if things fall their way. Personally i like our chances.

Missouri certainly had a good dual meet against Iowa but do they have the stamina to work through the grind of the NCAA tournament where every match will consist of a top 10 wrestler?

No disrespect intended to Missouri but teams like Iowa and Ohio State and Minnesota have already been battle tested going through the big 10 tournament. Every meet this season has been a dogfight for us. I don't think Missouri can say the same.

The MAC has some good teams but can Missouri handle wrestlers coming at them left and right from the brutal 10 Big Ten teams?

Time will tell....

Iowa has been the top ranked team all year with Missouri, Ohio State and Minnesota nipping at there heels. Nothing has really changed in my mind.

While I agree that Iowa is definitely in the mix for winning it along with tOSU, Mizzou and Minny, my concern is, I think Iowa's lineup was best suited for dual meets, and may not be as strong a tournament team.

By rankings (I know, they're only rankings), Iowa would get no finalists and could end up with a few guys battling it out for 3rd place. And a relative paucity of bonus points. So it will be difficult for Iowa to finish first.

Missou could have 3 finalists in Waters, Houdashelt and Cox. tOSU will have a champ in Steiber (with plenty of bonus pts) and other guys getting to semi's (Tomasello, BoJo, Snyder).

Minny seems to have fallen off the most, with little Dardanes still at #1 but not looking invincible. But Ness is no longer looking like a favorite over Imar. Big Dardanes has dropped some and Schiller falling behind Cox, Gadsen, McIntosh and Snyder.

I wouldn't count out iowa, we tied for the big ten without a champ (with a team that had two). It's all gonna come down to who is going to step up. Hopefully the seniors get a fire under them since this is it.

So basically Iowa just needs to try the f*** harder. Sounds doable.

Btw, this worked for the basketball team, so I think it can work for the wrestlers, too.

when was the last time a nonbig team
won. im thinking ten years at least. I am actually glad to see Missouri get in the game,i have family that live down there .ill have to see it to believe it.the fost freshmen are showing cracks. iowa definitely the favorite. we are just getting warmed up.

I think it'll be a couple key wrestlers that determine the outcome for the team title. I think a lot of it will rest on OSU, Minny and mizzou getting as many bonus points out of their horses and whether Iowa can get just one champ, (Evans will get it done IMO) and get some bonus points out of an unexpected weight. I think Jeva and Burak are good candidates for getting us some extra team points.
We just cant have all the chips fall in other teams favors like the finals at National duels and in the finals at B10.

I just think tOSU's best guys go further than any of the other top teams. So I would give them a slight edge based on placement points. Iowa is the deepest team, but could realistically not have a finalist. Mizzouand Minnesota are in the convo, but need a little help.

Once we get the brackets IMO it will be much easier to see.

If given a decent path. Sorny and Telford could be champs, Evans in 3rd place match and I sure wouldnt want Gilman, Clark and Brooks in my way. I think alot depends on their 3 seeds + Jeva. I see Burak as 7th plasce match but Clark is wrestling well and Sammy has got the tools in his arsenal if he keeps up his game, not try to mirror Evans in a 3rd period.

I know I am an Iowa fan but Clark and Brooks are as good of sleeper finalist picks as there are out there. I wouldnt call gilman, evans, Sorny, Telford sleeper picks due to should be good seeds.

Very close! Whoever comes to wrestle between OSU,Missouri, and Iowa. The only Lock NCAA champion on all three teams is Logan Steiber, who will likely look like David Taylor out there bonusing the heck out of people. Steiber is like having two J'Den Cox's on your team. For that reason, plus Hunter looked pretty salty and I think can win three or four matches,I pick OSU.

I think Iowas blueprint is 7-8 AA's with Jeva at least being rd of 12 if he doesnt AA. We cant expect much from Moore and Kelly.

of those 7-8 AA's we need 6 guys to be in the SEMI's. I know we can always say the NCAA's are won on sat morning and extra bonus points and while its 100% true, this Iowa teams achilles heal has been Friday morning wrestling. We just havent pulled guys through that well the last past couple years. We need to be darn good on friday morning. I am tired of that waking up friday morning hungover and watch Iowa give the tourney away that morning session. Its getting to be groundhogs day. So is the BIG finals. Those rounds have just consumed this team from finishing off a tourney. Getting old really!

and to add to that and my prior post I think we all feel good that Gilman, Sorny, Evans & Telford can get to friday night. Gilman may have to take out Tomasello, Conaway or Garrett. but very doable if he brings his offense.

The million $ questions are what higher seed will they stick in Clark and Brooks way. And to lesser extent Jeva.

You give Brooks anything other than Dean or Dechow in the QTRS. Giddy up.

Likewise if Clark isnt stuck with Schoop or Dardanes.. giddy up.

I think the paths of Brooks and Clark are our key. and Jeva to a certain degree.

So to sum up if Iowa wins this or not in 5 WORDS:

CLARK, BROOKS, FRIDAY MORNING QTRS!

Is Hunter going to be anywhere close to 100%? Ohio St needs his points to win, and he could be 2-5 points vs. 10-15.

rankings seem to indicate Mizzou and Iowa are most likely champions.

WIN tournament rankings has Missouri at #1, Iowa #2, Minn #3, and tOSU at #4.

Intermat tournament rankings has Iowa #1, Missouri #2, tOSU at #3, and Minn at #4.

I'm not sure who else does these types of rankings, but would be interesting to see some others. I think the thought of nearly everyone is that Iowa is deeper than Mizzou, but Mizzou has more guys with championship possibilities.

Do the Mizzou high ranking guys falter? Or do the Mizzou lower guys wrestler better than expected? Do some Iowa wrestlers wrestler better than their seed? Or does some of their depth unexpectedly fail to wrestle as good as expected?

Lot of things to watch, I can't wait. Good luck.

I know, if he was 100% healthy its tOSU's to lose. We have said that all year. However I dont think that elbow can be 100% this season and he seems to be wrestling with only one good arm. He can be had as he is easier to take down. Crafty as always but can be had. IMO the key for a average guy to beat him is dont try and ride him after that TD. Hunter is way too dangerous on reversals. Cut him and let him get on his feet. Let him wear himself out and own the 3rd. Dont let him rest on bottom for the 3rd period and make that reversal with 20 sec left.

Gueslist of guys not 100% and will pay for it

And to keep rambling about the importance of Clark and Brooks and to lesse extent Jeva. They are the best bonus chances for us after the first round is over. They can get a quick 2/3 count and put a match away and get an extra point or two. Id love to say Evans but he somehow forgot how to ever turn a guy. Amnesia I guess. Odd how he was just a hammer on top FR/SOPH years.

You know Tarp, I wonder about the coaching direction on this team? Honest question, its not a stab at Brands but...

do you think Brands is coaching Evans to wrestle like this? Is this the safest way to a title? Or do you think Evans and even Ramos last year went into an offensive shell on thier own and are ignoring the coaches on their SR years?

They are just not doing anything and waiting for that one mistake? Is this them or coaches direction?

I get it can work but man its a coin flip. You better have Tshirt like D to do this!

Let's compare just placement points for Iowa and OSU at Big Ten's, and likely finish at Nationals.
1st - 16
2nd - 12
3rd - 10
4th -9
5th -7
6th -6
7th -4
8th -3

OSU

Tomasello - 16 to 9 = -7. I'll be surprised if he finished top 4, but this is giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Dijulius - 9 to 4 = -5. He's ranked 6th because of his finish at big 10's, I'm giving him 7th, which I think is fair and probably too high.
Steiber - 16 to 16 = 0
Stieber - 6 to 0 = -6. I don't think he places after further injuring himself. It's too bad.
Demas 9 to 3 = -6. This is saying he AA's, which is giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Jordan 10 to 7 = -3. Saying he finishes 5th which is his current ranking.
Martin 7 to 0 = -7. I don't think he AA's.
Courts 3 to 0 = -3. I don't think he AA's.
Snyder 12 to 9 = -3. I don't think he'll beat the top 3. This is best case scenario for him.
Tav 0 to 0 = 0.

That's -40 placement points for OSU.

Iowa

Gilman 12 to 9 = -3. I think he finished 4th, worst case.
Clark 10 to 7 = -3 5th place probably lowest finish
Dwieza 12 to 4 = -8 , 7th place probably too low
Sorenson 12 to 9 = -3, 4th place seem likely or higher
Kelly 0 to 0 = 0
Moore 0 to 0 = 0
Evans 10 to 10 = 0 3rd place
Brooks 9 to 3 = -6, I think he'll AA.
Burak 9 to 4 = -5, 7th place is feasible, and lower than his current ranking
Telford 12 to 10 = -2, 3rd place I think is a good spot.

Iowa 30 points lower.

I still think it's Iowa's to lose. OSU took advantage at weak big 10 weights, while some of Iowa's best had to wrestle the best at their weights in the big 10.

Yep, it would be quite surprising for a team not named above to win the title, with Minny being the least likely IMO. But, realistically, any of the other top three teams are so close that I think we are looking at a real nail biter. An injury here, an upset there, bonus points here, luck of the draw there...little things will matter in this close race...A LOT.
