Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune about to weigh in?

They are finding this in a lot of people now where Covid has caused heart issues including myocarditis which athletes are already at an increased risk for. Also found where the damage done to the heart looks like the person had a heart attack bud didn’t.
i had some kind of virus in 2017 and they thought I had heart attack and put me on a treadmill and I did not. dunno if it was covid17. but I know the country did not shut down and we all did not wear masks.

The fear porn industry has taken over.

Everything that happens is the first and most serious time it's happened in medical history and the worst possible outcome is always assumed.

The side effects from COVID are the exact same as the flu. Not all of them have even made the news, yet, but they will and people will act like this is some sort of completely new terrifying issue.

These same side effects have been around as long as the flu has.

Other countries are not full of obese people.

other counties didn’t hold private proms so little girls were not too sad.

other counties likely are not tying 50 boats together on lakes partying.

would love to know of the people that died how many were obese, smokers, vapers, alcoholics, and drug addicts. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for any that fall into those groups. Bad life choices led to bad outcomes.

United States should tax obesity. It’s a big problem.

The prom thing. I never got the deal where prom should be seen as such a GD necessity. One of the biggest wastes of money there is at a young age.

Yes, especially the Trump GOP cult members. You could look it up, of course, but the states that continue to have the worst issues are those who have GOP governors who ignorantly bow to the sage medical advice of Guru Trump.

No strategy will work if a significant number of people refuse to follow it.
You could have the greatest offensive coordinator in the history of football, but if 3 or 4 of the 11 offensive players consistently believe they know better and do whatever the hell they want on every play, I don't think the offense is going to work very well.

I believe it was Knute Rockne, or maybe it was Hayden Fry, who said, "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread." Or maybe it was Alexander Pope back in 1711....
You do realize that California, New York, New Jersey, ILLINOIS all have democratic governors right? New York and New Jersey governors put old sick people with old people and killed thousands. How do you spin that? I am tired of the Republican vs democrat bullshit. Guess what? The virus doesn't give a shit. Why are we relying on politicians to tell us what to do? By locking down this country for political gain will absolutely kill more people. One more thing for my rant! No funerals, graduations, weddings but you can have PROTESTS. GTFOH! Violence in the US is up in urban areas by 25%. People have to live or they will kill each other!

It is funny how someone like you find anything Trump says as asinine but the Marxist views the democratic party is now embracing is "cool". Would you rather live in North or South Korea? Cuba or The Bahamas? Just sayin......

I would agree on the political bull crap. Why can't folks on both sides just admit we don't know with 100% certainty what works and what doesn't? Let's look at the data together and make decisions on how best to protect those at risk. Attending funerals, graduations, weddings, etc. are part of what make life worth living if you ask me. So we can't go to church or to funerals to bury relatives, but if the "cause" is good enough then it's okay? We either have liberty or we don't.

Agree with this. As soon as someone inserts their "damn GOP governors" or "liberal idiots", etc., nothing you say matters to me from a fact finding basis. Say what you want, but understand that those looking for your narrative will agree and those against your narrative will not. I think the majority of people are just tuning you out and trying to avoid the conversation with you. Read the room.

it’s funny because if you look at history those are the kind of leaders trump has admitted to idolizing.

At this point, the only way college sports are happening is if they take the model that youth sports has.

https://t.co/m56HgPEWdl?amp=1

Basically they test people who show symptoms and otherwise practice social distancing and wear masks. Similar to how Iowa had a high school baseball season. I don't understand why they are testing all these college players every week. The goal was to flatten the curve. Which was done. Somewhere the goal changed to the unreasonable and unattainable "stop the spread" which just can't happen with a virus.

Do linemen now have to be 6 feet apart shoulder to shoulder in football?

Yes, Cuomo is one who has bowed to Trump.

Hopefully we flattened the curve. If numbers start to shoot up then I would say we just delayed it.

does anyone really know where our hospitals truly stand when it comes to PPE and etc in case another big wave comes? I don't really see that mentioned in the news, though I won't lie I pretty much quit watching it

Let me guess, you're a liberal democrat

Let me guess, simple-minded Kurt Warner is back and thinks that everything he doesn't like or disagrees with is because that person is dang libtard! Everything that is happening throughout the world over the last 5 months is a multi-continent conspiracy against our Genius Overlord Donald Trump to get him out of office. Those damn evil Liberals! If only everyone was a virtuous and perfect as the drug-addled, pathological lying, military-hating, wife-cheating, incestuous, likely pedophile, whiny Toddler-in-Chief suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Ridiculous responses from people like you and Ottumwan in TX and Kurt is what give actual stand-up and realistic Conservatives bad names.

I want football and some of things that have (or have not) been done during this time is open to debate but making dumb-ass blanket statements saying everything that has happened due to one political party being 100% at fault is beyond stupid.

It's not just college it's all schools. Hell we have some guinea pigs schools already starting and it's not sounding good at some of them!!

Wake up politicians!!!

Google what happened in Israel when they opened their schools in May. They readily admit what they did was wrong.

Love the way you take shots at the POTUS while trying to seem above the fray.

Fool.

Don't know on the Iowa PPE, but they list some information on the Iowa Public Health website.

https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/pages/rmcc-data

Currently 243 hospitalized COVID patients statewide. 75 in ICU. Total inpatient beds available in Iowa is 3.44K, with 501 ICU beds available. So Iowa is in an excellent position to handle any increase. 788 ventilators available, only 32 currently in use.

Let’s wait and see if he had a heart issue that they were not aware of before he contracted COVID19. There have been cases where COVID19 led doctors to identify health issues that no one was aware of before the COVID diagnosis. Bottom line though, let’s pull for a full recovery for the young man,
I thought exactly the same thing. Its certainly happened before that a young athlete collapsed with a serious heart issue they never new they had. As weird as this sounds, its possible his contracting the virus may have saved his life if thats the case, because it exposed a pre virus condition.....

That’s fine. Feel free to post your suggestions for cutting $100,000,000 from the athletic budget.

also, how many years are you willing to wait to play most sports again if there is never a vaccine?

one thing to remember when you compare this to the flu and associated IFR (people dead/people that had it) of Covid and the flu, no exact facts or figures but the IFR of Covid is likely 0.5 to 0.8% not 3%, and its higher for old people than for young . The true IFR is adjusted down based on non-symptomatic people, people that don't get tested etc in an attempt to account for the errors in estimating he). A really bad flu season would be if i recall like 0.1 to 0.2%, however in reality it may be also much lower for the flu because the level of testing that is done is nowhere near that done for Covid so the number of people who had the flu is much higher than reported as it is with covid. So maybe the flu IFR in a bad year would be 0.03% if adjusted like the covid IFR. Not sure if the typical flu IFR is adjusted but i don't think so, the covid IFR is probably much more accurate than the flu just given the level of testing.

Again i am not saying we shouldn't have sports, and shouldn't do our best to open the economy, open schools etc and we may have to take risks cause it isn't going away soon and a vaccine is a future thing and not guaranteed to be effective, but don't say its the flu, it is not.

found something more reliable than my guesses but i was close

"The most exhaustive and up-to-date pre-serology-survey estimate of Covid-19’s IFR that I’m aware of, from a peer-reviewed article in Lancet Infectious Diseases by a group of researchers at Imperial College London, is 0.66% and the IFR of the seasonal flu is 0.04%"

so if you divide 0.66 by 0.04 you get covid is 16.5 times as deadly as the flu. again not saying this is the final word and in time it will be less of a problem with vaccines, better treatments, more immunity in the population.

I don't have issues with people saying we need to go ahead and live life and deal with the consequences, there are days i think that. but it will be at a cost.

No they are not the exact same as the flu. Repeat it all you want, that doesn't make it true. You can come to the hospital where I work and see some patients, speak with doctors and experts that actually see these patients and know what is going on, and you will see the effects covid has on the body can be far more serious and life changing than influenza. Blood clots, stroke, permanent lung damage/fibrosis, amputations of extremities due to blood clots, lasting neurological effects. It's far more contagious and far more serious than influenza.

Thanks for the work that you do Dargo. Hearing/listening/reading comments and opinions like StinkyMcFadden and OiT is so frustrating due to the obvious ignorance, stupidity and selfishness involved, I can only imagine how these comments and opinions impact you on the front line. Appreciate what you do, one of my nieces is working the ER at a hospital in San Antonio and she is heartbroken at what is going on right now, you can hear the pain in her voice when trying to describe what is going on within the walls of the hospital. Its infuriating to see/read people continue to say 'its just the flu' because they hear it on Fox or from the narcissistic moron occupying the white house. No, its not just the flu, its much worse. I don't think the flu has come close to killing 155k in six months or less not to mention the scary long term side efforts that are being reported. Until people realize this, stop being selfish and stupid, we will not make meaningful progress as a country to regain some semblance of normalcy. thanks again for all that you do.

The fact that football and basketball have been played during the flu season for a million years should hopefully cause some of you to pull your heads out of your asses.

This is not new at all.
Just curious as to where you think the country would be at without the precautions that have been taken? No shut downs, closures, masks, social distancing, banned flights, quarantines etc.

I don't have issues with people saying we need to go ahead and live life and deal with the consequences, there are days i think that. but it will be at a cost.
It’s a cost our civilization must be willing to pay ...or we will implode due to the alternative.

Sorry granny... sorry fatso... sorry fractional outlier.

Only way to truly beat this is to begin building NATURAL IMMUNITY ....so let the games begin.

Literally.

Do a little research. Schools in Europe have been open for a while. You can live in your bubble of fear fueled by the US media and politicians or you can do your own research and see what the rest of the world is saying.

They don't have American brat, vso means little to me. Bubble? I was all over town today :)

the response to it is 100%
This is a sad fact. How is it that peoples
Opinions on this come down on party lines? Maybe it’s due to the people they tend to listen to and they fall down politically so their people take that opinion and don’t analyze the data themselves. It’s a real shame this has been so tribal. No need for it. It’s ok to have a different opinion but why does it have to political instead of informed ?
