Sorry but Grassley and McConnell need to go.
The voters can vote for the next person after someone term limits out.Why take power from voters?
Why take power from voters?
I’m good with age limitsThe U.S. Congress, President, Supreme Court Justices need
both age limits and term limits. The age limit should be 75 yrs.
old. Term limits for Congress: 12 years for Senators and 10
years for Representatives, President already has 2 term limit.
Supreme Court Justices should be limited to 15 years of service.
Bottom Line: All of us need to admit that 75 years old is a good
time to retire from public life in Washington D.C. Term limits
would eliminate those people who want to spend 25 or 35 years
as life long career politicians. Too many have abused the public
trust and lasted over 40 years.
A ban on partisan gerrymandering would be nice also.Meh, term limits give too much power to lobbyists and bureaucrats. A better solution would be campaign finance reform.
Personally, I'd be okay with a service limit - 30 years and out, or something like that.I’m good with age limits
It's not really about how long someone serves, it's more about the nature of the business politics has become. Why take power from voters?
But can’t vote for the long termer they want to retain. The voters can vote for the next person after someone term limits out.
That’s for the voters to decide.Senile geriatrics belong in old folks homes, not in Congress.
That’s for the voters to decide.
I would do age limits over term limits.I’m good with age limits
That's blatant discrimination.
Minimum age limits? Same or?
Should all members be subject to yearly independent cognitive testing?
Or, the White House. 😉Senile geriatrics belong in old folks homes, not in Congress.
Yes. I'll take Joni as Vance's VP candidate. If I win, you buy me a lottery ticket every week for a year, so $52. If you win, you're lucky and don't get anything.Phony Joni Ernst previously inidcated she would only serve 12 years (2 terms). Anyone want to wager she runs again?
Florida has age limits for judges. 🤷♂️That's blatant discrimination.
I can't work past 65. Is that discrimination? That's blatant discrimination.
Should there be age limits on voting? If there's there's a blanket assumption that, say, 75 is too old to productively serve in Congress, perhaps it is too old to select political representation. Old folks won't be around to live with the long-term consequences of their choices, after all.I’m good with age limits
Yes. But some discrimination is proper.I can't work past 65. Is that discrimination?
That used to be a good thought. The power of incumbency, and everything that entails, now overrides the power of the voters. Why take power from voters?
Mandatory retirement age of 70.A ban on partisan gerrymandering would be nice also.
Personally, I'd be okay with a service limit - 30 years and out, or something like that.
The one thing I agree with OP on. I have a problem with career politicians. Give em 8/12/16 years, but at some point go contribute to society.
I don’t hate it, but i feel like that would be harder to hold up to a court challenge than a service limit.Mandatory retirement age of 70.
Another reason I’d like to get rid of the gerrymander - have all states have to draw state/federal districts by nonpartisan committees. That used to be a good thought. The power of incumbency, and everything that entails, now overrides the power of the voters.
Power needs to be taken back for voters.
Hell, at some point you’d think they’d want to spend time with their grandkids! The one thing I agree with OP on. I have a problem with career politicians. Give em 8/12/16 years, but at some point go contribute to society.
Gerrymandering is a talking point. Drawing up districts is the job of the those elected in their states. It's the essence of democracy.Another reason I’d like to get rid of the gerrymander - have all states have to draw state/federal districts by nonpartisan committees.
At least try to give voters a better chance to vote out incumbents.
Hell, at some point you’d think they’d want to spend time with their grandkids!
Because voters are ****ing idiots. Why take power from voters?
agreed. It’s HOW they’re drawn up that’s the problem.Gerrymandering is a talking point. Drawing up districts is the job of the those elected in their states. It's the essence of democracy.
