My son was born in 1977 just prior to ultrasound yet my OB could hear a heartbeat by the second month of gestation. It’s not a fully formed organ but it’s there.

There are "cells" that form the S-A node.

That's not a "heart"; it is "electrical activity".

And people w/o functional S-A nodes live just fine, with pacemakers.

No; it's simply not

There is no formed heart yet, nor heart valve which create the actual "heartbeat" sound.

That electrical pulse is like the S-A node in your heart, which will TRIGGER heart pulses. That electrical pulse in a human heart likewise makes no audible noise.
