There is a narrative that we have seen woven into some of the “thank-you Fran” posts since Friday about how Fran “did more with less” during his time at Iowa. While there is probably some truth to that, it seems overblown. I mean, we know our NIL is weak, but that’s only been a thing for the past 4-5 years. Other than that, Iowa’s support for basketball has been quite strong, including the construction of a new practice facility. This was sent out by Chad L on Saturday:
I am going to tweet something, too, but if you see a quote from Pete Thamel saying Iowa is not willing to pay a big buyout to another coach, I can assure you from an incredibly well-placed source that is absolutely not true.
Iowa is prepared to do what it takes to get the best men's basketball coach on board.

Indiana, Villanova, Virginia, Minnesota, and NC State are just a few of the other p4 schools looking for new head basketball coaches.Of course they are,.. Understanding that "best" is a very relative term.
Not true--seen Indiana and UVA. Villanova just opened upIndiana, Villanova, Virginia, Minnesota, and NC State are just a few of the other p4 schools looking for new head basketball coaches.
Minnesota likely has there's already in Medved.
Indiana, Virginia, and Villanova are all better jobs than Iowa. McCollum is on rumored short lists for all those schools. Devries has not been rumored to be on the short list for any of them.
I think we're either getting Devries or some yet to be named up and commer.
Chad L. has already shot this down, but aside from that--I find it very hard to believe Beth would can Fran without having her ducks in a row on every turn.

This. Goetz is not Barta in more ways than one. First, she has the courage to make moves that need to be made. Second, she's smart enough to make sure that the resources are in place to do better before making the move.Chad L. has already shot this down, but aside from that--I find it very hard to believe Beth would can Fran without having her ducks in a row on every turn.
Top 25 anyway. LolIowa is one of the Top 15 revenue producing programs in the country.
Is the basketball program not part of the athletic department anymore? When did it become a club sport? 😀Top 25 anyway. Lol
But that really means absolutely nothing when it comes to the basketball program. What is so hard for people to understand about this?
?True:

Attendance has sucked and Iowa's NIL is a fraction of most major-college programs, so I doubt that Iowa is in great financial shape. Women's BB shows that Iowa fans want to support their teams (there are limited teams to cheer for in Iowa), but you have to give them a product that delivers more than occasional exciting games. I know nothing about Iowa's finances or the coaching search, but they need to make a great selection or this could be Lick2.0. Even then, the cards will be stacked against that coach, unless financial support changes. There is a narrative that we have seen woven into some of the “thank-you Fran” posts since Friday about how Fran “did more with less” during his time at Iowa. All this to say, I think there might be people in the Fran camp pushing the “did more with less” narrative, to canonize Fran and jab at the University of Iowa. This narrative that Iowa is “not in great financial shape” seems to go along with it.
Double true. Goetz isn't doing Phase I without a Phase II in place.Iowa has the money raised
