The 68th Game in the Series: what is the bigger game?

The 1982 Rose Bowl was the 68th edition of the college football bowl game, played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Friday, January 1. Iowa vs. Washington that game.

On Saturday, Iowa and Iowa State will face off in their 68th meeting in the CyHawk series, in what it has become in the modern game. In the 2019, note the block on the edge to seal it and allow the Iowa RB to explode. Both those guys are back playing B1G in 2021.

Iowa owns a 45-22 record in the CyHawk Game, renewed in 1977 in Iowa City, where Iowa won 12-10 against a Iowa State team coming off a 8-4 season, with huge hopes head to head with Oklahoma that season.

Now, Iowa State hosts the 2021 renewal. The preview of the Big Twelve Conference has surrounded College Football all pre-season with even higher Iowa State and Oklahoma talk.

Like 1977, Iowa is the underdog heading into the B1G Game with Iowa State. Unlike any other meeting, both teams are ranked. Top 10 at that.

Does Iowa finally carry off the trophy in the 68th meeting of this series?

Or, does Iowa State finally hit paydirt?

They did win in 1978 in Iowa City as a ranked team. In 1 of the 13 games Iowa has been ranked heading into the CyHawk Game, Iowa State won in 2005 in Ames against a ranked Hawkeye team.

What gives in Saturday in Jack Trice?
  • Can Iowa establish the run game against ISU's trending 3-3-5 defense on Saturday?
  • Iowa hasn't had a turnover in any of the wins over a Matt Campbell coached team, can QB Spencer Petras step up in his first start in the CyHawk game? He is 7-2 making his 10th collegiate start, but none bigger than the game on Saturday!
  • Negative plays, explosive plays, takeaways, penalties and special teams, which team is ready, willing and able on what will be the hottest CyHawk Game on record: temperature & rankings?

Let's hope: Iowa 20, Iowa State 16, in what could become a higher scoring game on Saturday.
