What I find truly amazing is how many people within the fan base still don’t understand the DNA of the Kirk Ferentz program. I understand people outside of the fan base that don’t understand Iowa, so they think the Hawks are lucky. But, it’s the people inside the fan base that should have figured it out by now.
The brilliance of KF is that he knows what he’s looking for. Typically, he knows he’s not going to go out and blow teams out. So, they play great defense, play physical, run the ball and set up play action. That will lead to the offense looking rough at times and he’s okay with that. He’s just trying to win games, not light up the scoreboard or be entertaining. The entertainment is winning. He’s not trying to impress anyone or get style points, just win games.
The Penn State game was a classic Iowa win. Beat up the other team, look ugly, but make enough plays and win.
