The Clash- Warner

This kid is going to be a monster in college. I have a feeling Warner will be the next coming of Gabe Dean - dominant right out of the gates.

Cornell has their own coming of Gabe Dean coming up...Darmstadt and possibly his little brother Max. They have quietly put together some phenomenal recruiting classes in Ithaca.

I think Warner will be really good as a RFr and a RSo (as in a mid AA both years) but he's not quite there physically. I see him fully maturing as a 21/22 year old and dominating after that.

Heard Ironside say on a broadcast earlier this year that you make your greatest improvement between your soph. and Junior year. Now maybe he was just going from his own experience, but he was talking about how you gain "Man" strength at that time.

Minny recently signed a stud without much fanfare;
Daniel Kerkvleit sophomore same weight as Warner. Lots of upside. Think he'll be pretty darn good too as he matures.

Long way to go for that kid. He doesn't even know who the coach will be. No doubt looks talented.

Cornell has gotten two top 10 p4p guys from the class of 2017 - #2 Diakomihalis and #4 Arujau. Don't think they have any other top 10 from 2016 or 2018 (so far) classes.

For comparison Iowa and PSU....

Class of '16

Iowa:
#3 Marinelli

PSU:
#1 Hall
#2 Suriano
#5 Manville

Class of '17

#2 Diakomihalis
#4 Arujau

Iowa has:
#1 Lee
#8 Warner

PSU has:
#5 N Lee
#7 Berge

Class of '18

Iowa:
#2 Teasdale

PSU:
#3 Wittlake
#4 Roman B Young

It's a verbal, so I guess anything can still happen. Still says something a kid of that caliber is willing to commit to Eggum considering all that's happened.
Still, he's the type of kid that's gonna turn that program around.

I think this is the 3rd year in a row that Jamie Heidt's 27th ranked Kasson Mantorville team is not in the Clash! What's up with that? They won the Christmas Tournament a week ago in the same venue. They would have been for sure a 2nd seed in one of the 4 brackets ahead of Roseburg Or. and Apple Valley.

Maybe someone at K-M realized that multi-day super-tournaments on back to back weekends is ridiculous. Just a thought.

I know they are at Cheesehead Jan 6th. You are probably right. Check out this undefeated 170 # 9th grader ranked # 1 in AA, has beat the #1 A and # 1 AAA in MN. so far this year. He is slick !

Goodness. That would have been 3 weeks in a row with two of them over the holidays. That's insane. I would hope NO schools are doing that.

The Christmas Tournament was the 16th, I said last w/e, it was 2 w/e ago.

Ah! Well that's better.

You did hit a nerve with me though. We are in an era where two day supertournaments have become all the rage. IMHO, they have gotten way out of hand.

Kid looks tough for only a 9th grader and at the weight...Hawks need Sammy (cookie) Stoll to get to this kid for future upper weight for the Hawks...

That's exactly my thought, especially with kids who aren't held back.

Gabe Dean was just one of those physical freaks who once he focused on wrestling, it was game over for everyone else. Those types don't come along very often. He was also a grown man when he wrestled Ruth as a freshman.

Good thing Iowa hs has travel restrictions huh?

I'm very much a fan of some restrictions.

However, there are now enough two day instate tournaments that any restrictions I'm aware of are moot. I'm familiar with a 2A school that's attending 3 two day tournaments this year. That's excessive, IMHO. Just not necessary.

They were invited and declined to attend. Some hurt feelings are involved from them not being asked a few years ago. They are the closest team to the competition (5 miles from Rochester) and the parents want to attend, but coaches choose otherwise.
