The cluster that is the Big Ten...

That isn't a known fact, and some evidence points to the contrary. Nothing will be proven, and it might become clear that January won't work either I have no skin in the game with the B1G and their decision besides agreeing with it. When you remove the manipulative effect money has on this decision, it's obvious what the choice is: don't play.
When you remove the manipulative effect of fear porn the obvious choice is to play. They have been having massive youth baseball/softball tournaments in the suburb I live in since June and nobody has fallen over dead. Throw in all the HS football being played right now. There are numerous examples of sports happening everywhere when money is not the reason they are being played. And they are all happening without athletes falling over dead.

You should read more into "long haulers" from COVID. This is emerging information so reports are still conflicting, but it seems like everyone's best bet to avoiding complications is to just not get COVID, no matter your age or health. Non life-threatening complications can still be life-altering. Neurological problems are the most concerning for me.
Translation: We don't know what Covid will do to us in 5 years so we should stay in our basements until we know. But what if the long term affects start in 10 years? or 20 years?

Great post my thoughts exactly. My biggest thing for the “what happens in 20 years” crowd is this: They’re not worried about contracting the virus by playing football (the other team has been tested and they’re on campus anyway), they’re actually worried about playing after contracting the virus. And that will apparently cause long term affects on the heart. So by that logic everyone in the world needs to stop working out or accelerating their heart rate until we know it’s safe. How f’ing crazy does that sound?

There is absolutely zero medical proof of your above comment. Quit spreading falsehoods.
And there is absolutely zero evidence to support your argument that covid doesn't cause unknown, long term complications. I can tell you from working in the health care field that this virus is nothing like the flu, and doctors are seeing lingering complications months after people have gotten over it, such as significant scarring in the lungs. Even in people that had mild, or no symptoms, and that were perfectly healthy before they were infected. How many chest X-rays, or CT scans have you looked at from people that have had covid? I'm not saying people should hide in their basements, etc., but this is a much bigger deal than a lot of people think it is. Maybe that's why Iowa has earned the distinction of the new epicenter of the virus.

The guy on Outkick just said that not one college football player who has tested positive for CV19 has been hospitalized. Most had no idea they had it and at the worst they thought they had a mild cold. So, unless your a 70 year RS Senior trying to play college football, seems to be little to be concerned with. Add to that that every one of these football players and coaches is of legal age to decide to play or not. I also heard one of these talk show dudes say that if the BiG doesn't play, they may never recover. What he's saying is there is a possibility that not all BiG fans will return to watch in 21 if they don't play in 2020. That might seem far fetched, however I'm 56, watched the NFL religiously most of my life and had NFL sunday ticket for many years. I cancelled it when Kap took the knee and the league did nothing to stop it. I said f**k the NFL. Since then, I haven't cared to watch an NFL game and found other things to do on Sundays. I completely lost my desire to watch the NFL and will never go back to watching the NFL on a consistent basis.
Yeah, racism impacts my decisions too only the opposite of you. If kap kneeling affected you that much but you're fine with decades long racial bias and bullying by Kirk and co you are a POS human. I won't be back to Kinnick for awhile but it's mostly all the disgusting and pathetic loser Hawkkkeye fans out there. The bigot douchebags have taken over

Sweet don’t come back.

You are incorrect. I'm a be cautious and when in doubt land on the side of player safety. Too much unknown this fall. Big Ten made the right call.
There are risks in a contact sport. Examples are torn muscles, head injuries, and all kinds of mental illness caused by head injuries. Where has this got us? They still play knowing the risk! This is no different.

Heading to my gym soon for a workout or should I wait to see the long terms affects of Covid in case I have had it?

So when it comes to football I guess they care about their hearts but not their brains with CTE. Because you have a risk for each not sure why you can play with one and not the other. On top of all the other long term injuries one can get from playing football like bad knees, back etc.

Completely agree. Just add it to the list of reasons why “unknown long term heart affects” is garbage. The players are practicing as I type this so how can you even push long term heart conditions if you’re the B1G? Heart problems can only develop in games, not practice? It’s BS. Again, if this is a legit concern we all need to not work out or we could develop long term heart affects. Nobody is pushing that and it’s insane.

So, what you wait 20 years to determine problems. No, actually most people are aware of the issues, but there is not anything that can be done. It has to run it's course at some point. Vaccines my screw you long-term as well.

We won't know what the long term outlook for COVID patients is until we get there, I agree. But we do know what some patients, many who weren't hospitalized, are experiencing in the 3-6 month range after they were infected. Too soon to tell if those conditions will be long term.

Stop being a self rightous douchbag asshat. It's my right as a US Citizen, X US Air Force vet and former DOC not to watch a man who was a third string QB making 19 million bucks a year dishonor our flag. Am I on here telling others not to watch the NFL? NO......I'm exercising my own rights. You know, I watch football to get away from politics, not watch a bunch of coddled spoiled rich assholes disrespect our country on MY time. Football is their job, and they are payed to play, not making political statements. They can protest all they want, on THEIR time, not mine. And yes dickhead, it's our time. I paid for NFL sunday ticket, fans bought game tickets, in the end we pay their salaries. Why don't you try protesting everyday at your job and see how long you keep it. You know dipshit, people fought and died so dickheads like you have the constitutional right to take that knee and disrespect honorable people. So I am a bigot for being patriotic, well, coming from a dickless asshat who probably (as Jack Nicholson would put it) never stood a post, I take that as a compliment. If you want to see a hero, look up Pat Tillman, he represents what we honor the flag for.

There are other diseases not affecting the heart that athletes, especially football players, need to be aware of. Mono comes to mind.

Well, there is the Cal U player that just died, and the Indiana OLineman might be a couple Outkick wants to add to its info- it’s public, available. There are probably more, but who knows- clearly Outkick doesn’t

2 things. The cause of death for the Cal U (division 2) players has been retracted by his former highschool, that announced it. So it seems unclear that it was complications from Covid.

Second
No football season at his Cal U until January, so if the narrative is that canceling football prevents covid/deaths, then this story fails to fit the narrative.

Totally agree. I’ve seen mono sideline an athlete for months to fully recover and a doctor to clear them. Each individual athlete ways these risks and should have the right to make their own decision and that includes Covid.

Science is probably on the sides of those who don't have money clouding decisions

The COVID crazies are inching closer to this.

I'm fine with Kirk and company. They ran a military style program very well. You know, tie your shoes, don't wear a hat in the building, be on time, all those racist things.
But then....this new crybaby generation calls for systemic racism attacks because they need to be treated differently than everyone else that went through...pfff

Good work there. Outkick is probably chuckling at that attempt.

That chart above should guarantee a season. Absolutely ridiculous that they are not playing. I hope they continue to sue the shit out of the schools and the conference until they play. The B1G's medical reasoning is baseless. Any other argument against playing is solely political.

Is the chart accurate? I don't see where it's getting data

So if they're sick with mono, it's not their choice when they can play

You have been arguing in this thread that after you have had Covid you can’t compete, not while sick with Covid. Keep moving the goal posts but your argument sucks. Also. Answer this question. Are you saying anyone in the world that get Covid will need to refrain from working out or accelerating their their heart rate until we know the long term affects? Because that is your argument with the football players.

I have said nothing about heart damage.

Those football players get mono can't compete for weeks after they no longer have mono due to risk of organ damage. We readily accept that even though the players feel fine and probably "want to play". We don't know yet really the long term consequences of Covid, but there are people who are grappling with symptoms months later. It's reasonable to be cautious. Football is a unique and violent sport. It's not tennis.

Translation: There could be a risk we are unaware of and therefore don’t allow them to play. So every time we have a new infectious disease we will put life on pause.
Another question, are you on board with the big ten basketball? They have been adamant with a November start.

From what I recall, Iowa got one full contact practice in.
They are still working out and practicing. Does risk of Covid only happen If you run a go route in pads vs no pads? Are you making the argument Covid long term risks only apply to physical contact practice and not conditioning or weight lifting?

Your translation sucks. Acknowledging what we don't know is as important as acknowledging what we do know. We all hate living in a world of maybes but that's exactly where we are right now with COVID.

So basically you think sports should be shut down for 10-20 years until we know what the “long term consequences” are.

You should probably keep hiding in your basement. We’ll tell you when it’s safe to come out.

I have never put a time frame up, much less 10-20 years. That's your projection.
