The committee result doesn't bother me

I get being irked at the double talk and misinformation. But set that aside and look at our ranking, and I'm not bothered.

1) The committee has us ranked higher than the other highly publicized rankings.

2) In less than a season, we've gone from dead-in-the-water as a program to part of the playoff discussion. Soak it up, fellow Hawks; who knows what's coming this year and when we'll be back in these heights.

i agree a 100% with op i'm a hawk fan and i'm not for sure how good Iowa really is so why would someone out side the program be all excited.

If we where a top 10 team at any time a year ago then I would know more..

Agreed with both your points and will add a third:

3) If Iowa wins out, it will definitely be in the playoff. If it doesn't win out, it doesn't deserve the playoff anyway.

What will be interesting is...as teams ahead play each other and one obviously loses, how Iowa plays out with the committee in the rankings if they keep winning.

Does the committee reward undefeated, or penalize perception of the schedule?

The great thing is really, as has been hammered home on the board...what really truly only matters is after conference championships.

3 teams ahead of us play each other. Putting us at 6. We are most likely playing someone ahead of us in B1GCG. Putting us at 5. It would take everything going against us not to get in if we win out.

A one loss Hawk team coming fresh off a CCG win against a likely undefeated top 4 team would make a great fit in the playoffs. Why should some other 1 loss team get in ahead of us?

Is it a wonder that Iowa doesn't get much respect nationally? Our own fans seem to demand a standard at least one of the other playoff teams will likely not meet.

My understanding is that each week stands on its' own merits. It's quite possible Iowa drops after this week unless teams like Wisky, NW, and Pitt all win. I think Iowa would need a BIG win and at least two of Pitt/NW/Wisky to win to have a chance of moving up. Who the hell knows?

In your scenario the "best loss" would be Indiana. You think one of the Playoff teams will have a November loss against a 4-4 team? There might be 10 teams with a more respectable story to tell than that.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective. Will those teams have beaten a top 4 team- possibly an undefeated returning national champion- to win a P5 conference championship? There will not be ten teams that match these credentials and a 12-1 record.

Our Northwestern loss in 2009 didn't keep us out of a BCS bowl in spite of a 2 game November skid and no conference title, so it seems that you are giving far too much weight to the single loss and ignoring the body of work that will be required to get to 12-1 if that's how it plays out.
