The death throes of American conservatism....

I wonder if it will go out with a bang or a whimper.

Interesting question. I was thinking the same thing about Liberalism a few years back. Be careful what you wish for, the pendulum may swing back and hit you in the nuts.

The libs did well in the last election so they should be ok.

There is a way out. And I hope it happens, because there are a lot of liberal policies that I disagree with.

If the conservatives can sideline the religious right and actually live up to the libertarian mantra of letting people do as they wish without government interference, they will have a compelling case to make.

Until such time, though, they are going to fail again and again in non off-year elections and in court decisions.

Ball is in their court.

While theoretically that makes sense, in a two party world that can't happen. The religious right is just too big to be sidelined. What's odd is that the RR keeps showing up to vote R when they actually get very little policy passed they want. But where else are they going to go?

Since President George Washington, the United States has
always had a liberal fringe and a conservative fringe. However,
the majority of Americans are in the centrist middle. This works
out to about 15% on the liberal end and 15% on the conservative
end. This leaves about 70% in the middle.

Today, the liberal fringe has become progressively more socialist
with their mantra about redistribution of wealth. The conservative
fringe was hijacked by Rev. Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority in the
1980's. Today, they are no longer a major force in politics.
The Good News is that 70% of Americans are just trying to earn
a living, raise a family, or enjoy retirement.

We need to evolve past both the Liberal and Conservative parties as they are. I like to consider myself one of the truly awakened, and once you are able to see through things, you never get fooled again.

What I see with both parties is a #$# show, and it's laughably and pathetically uninspiring. It's so clear that these parties and their players are just simply tools for Wall Street, Big Business, and the MIC.

Seriously, how stupid can they really be? I'll tell you, not nearly as stupid as you think. Because most of what they say is meant to bring out a response, and not necessarily what they actually think.

These are some serious chess players we are dealing with here, and they're so good at it, that most people don't even realize they are being played. They simply take every word for truth, and rarely ever check up to see if what they are being told is valid or not.

Lies, they are all lies. I hope they both fizzle out and die.

The religious right needs to be represented as well. That is true, they really don't have anyplace else to go and am not so sure that it hasn't cost R's some votes because they just decide to stay home.

This could be good for cons and GOPs. It's one less stupid position they have to defend.

If they get defeated on all their stupid positions, they may start looking more reasonable to voters.

This isn't a two party world no matter how much you want to believe it is. It's a one party system, and its one you to understand that.

I'm still pulling for someone to form the American Christian Party.

Take a look at the GOP race. Plenty of good candidates who would fit right in.

Huckabee and Santorum would make a very solid ticket.

The money would flow. Plenty of well-known organizations would jump in (pretty much anything with the word "Family" in the name is likely to have a religious agenda).

It could pose a formidable challenge.

And who would the dems have to expel? BTW, why do cons have to live up to libertarian mantra?

Count me the enjoying retirement group.

In a parliamentary system that might well fly

The libs did not do well in the last election-----it'll be worse from now on out.
The Republicans......should do very well in the next election...looking forward to it.

He didn't "hijack" anything...he had a strong vibrant voice that rang up until his death. Honestly Obama would not have been elected nor would you have seen this day's events were he still alive. Billy Graham was not political...Franklin tries but just doesn't have the charisma...Pat Robertson couldn't inspire a fart. Dr. Falwell was a giant...a mover and shaker...a Conservative legend...and hated by the evil liberal left. A giant of a man once lived on this earth and presided over Thomas Road Baptist Church.

It is illegal for a non-profit religious organization to tell
people how to vote from their pulpit. Rev.Jerry Falwell
violated this precept. So did Rev. Al Sharpton and
Jesse Jackson. Some preachers push Republicans
and some pastors push Democrats. It is wrong to do
this within the pulpit of a church.

You think that will stop black preachers in the South?

Aren't executive orders, like court decisions all part of the system? They are in America, where are you posting from? Why should I get excited about memos? I'd bet Obama has more tweets than Reagan too.

I wonder if it will go out with a bang or a whimper.
We all lost America the last 2 days. Only an idiot (Torbee) would not recognize the flood gates are open and it's going to go both ways. I can't wait until my ccw permit must be recognized in all 50 states and DC.

Because the executive memo's have the same power as the executive order.

The difference is Progressives work in the system to get the laws changed. Turn on the news.
Then that is why the progressive will never win. You don't win by simply becoming a spoke of the wheel, you win by breaking the wheel.

natural already knows that...but one thing I have learned about that ole boy...he loves a good fight. I like him...somewhere down the line he has some Tennessee mountain boy in him.
I'm sure at some time or another, he's had many boys in him.

Executive orders are much like a Kings declarations. We were never meant to be a monarchy.

Now you get it, federalize gun laws. Glad to see you on board.

Turn on the news. Why does my competition alway disregard empirical data? It's all well and good to have philosophical debates. But when reality crowns a victor bow down.

Work in the system?.....what a pile of crap..... Obama has been a dictator. Executive orders/memo's under Obama have soared!!

First of all you sound damn angry. Get ahold of your emotions so you don't come off as a ranting fool.

Second, I'm a newer Michigan board transplant so I wasn't on here in 2008. I have to assume you also called Bush a Dictator back then for having the largest number of executive orders in modern history?

A hands on detail oriented executive is what I thought I was voting for in 2008. I wish he had been that sooner. I see nothing illegal, immoral or unprecedented in that article. You're really pissed the guy gave people December 26th off?

I'm all for the RR to take a hike. But, the libertarian mantra? Man, many people seem to hate that on here. Just ask a real libertarian (WWJD). Ron Paul/Rand Paul would be getting a bit more love- not Bernie Sanders.
