The fake punt should have worked

The guy that tackled him ran through three of our guys unblocked. Why not just shove him if you see him running towards you? Are they coached to just assume a punt that early in the play?

How about he just punt it like we called??

I dunno, it depends on what he was coached to do. Maybe he's been coached to run if he sees nothing but green ahead. But that would require guys to at least shove that dude on their way down the field.

Not sure what he was thinking but I would imagine he will be sitting on the bench next week and for good reason a real bone head play

1 guy knew the play; he didn’t tell the other 10. So he gets tackled-funny thing is faked out 8; only 3 thought to chase him.

Watching it live I had the same reaction KF had. Had he let someone else in on it........... it works. Question is, why do it when you're up 31 with 4:30 to go?

You can't fix stupid. It was a totally stupid play. I hope we find a punter before next season.

I think he was just amped from this pass completion, and decided he could do anything. Probably also understood it very, very likely wouldn’t affect the outcome. It’s not like we were up 4.

If you give s mouse a cookie... (which we did with that fake FG)

I see both points..... one it was stupid up big and deep in our own territory to do that but I also agree that had it not been for 83's effort to run across the field and right by three Hawkeyes it would have gone for a first down and possibly more. There was no other containment left on that side. If any of the three Hawks hits 83 just a little it's a first down.

But.......it wasn't a fake punt. No reason to block 83

Agree but where is the situational awareness from our guys? How many times does an opposing player fly across the field toward the boundary that early and that close to the LOS on a punt? Not an easy pick up but you'd think someone would might react to slow that route even just a little. That's all that was needed.

From where I sat you could tell by Kirk's reaction that he didn't thing the fake was a good idea.

It's a key on the rugby punts. If he sees it, he has the green light. Up 31 it should have been a yellow light, with no one else expecting it, and hence why Kirk is mad...

Based on Kirk's comments, I don't think he has green light on his rugby punts. Kirk might give him an option on a specific punt, but he sure didn't have green light on that particular play.

The ball should of been punted long before that guy even appeared....the play was to punt it period. It is done probably 50 times a week in practice...one guy decided he was going to do his thing and it didn't work out for him. It happens and pretty sure it will never happen again for that kid.
