SO QB Stanley in his 1st season as the starter is avg'ing 216 ypg 16 TD's 3 INT's and has been sacked only 11 times this season he needs 1 more TD pass to pass CJ's total of 17 in his RSJR year and RSSR year
the blockers are these that are returning
LT RSSO Jackson 6'7 325 lbs
LG SR Render 6'4 307 lbs
C SR Daniels 6'4 295 lbs
RG RSJR Levi Paulson 6'5 305 lbs
RT SO Wirfs 6'5 315 lbs
this will be the biggest OL's under KF and now the skill players
JR TE Fant
RSSO TE Hochenson
WR SO Brandon Smith
WR SR Easley
RB RSSO Young
RB SO Kelly-Martin

looking at it Iowa will graduate just 3 seniors the offense is getting better. if most of you have been following the future most know there are some highly skilled playmakers coming in, these will be added to a already talented group, this should indicate improved play and records.

which the fire KF crowd will just hate.

According to today's rag, we have begun building for the future. My take away was different then in the past where we supposedly were playing the players that gave us the best chance to win this Saturday.. Some upper classmen being passed up by younger inexperienced players.

they were with players like Jackson and Wirfs but the future is now, as that is why so many Freshman are playing.
this was what forced the coaches hands, this team went into the season with 15 returning starters and now because injuries there are only 7 left and when Jewell were not playing because of injuries only 5 returning starters were on the field, 3 on offense and 2 on defense,

Then one might think they’d be working on passing routes, route timing, different formations vs running vs running draws and zone runs on 2nd and 10-15 yards.

Thanks for the update whatever Ferentz you are. You can spin it anyway you like but the focus of next year should be the failure of this year to have quality depth across the line up for players to step in and take another player's place. KF has only had 19 years to get this figured out but still making excuses is getting old when given all the tools necessary to be successful.

Even Matt Campbell has it figured out in Ames after one season while KF is still trying to throw the ball when the run is taken away. Just go away nitwit.

The days when Iowa's O Line could out-muscle teams are over. The 2015 O had holes (e.g. pass blocking) but had a rare combo of great FB, TE and WR blocking, along with weak schedule. That made Kirk look pretty smart for one year.

The future of Iowa football is 25 more years of the Ferentz clan comprising 22 7-5 seasons and 3 10 win seasons. With 4 top 10 finishes.

Good to have lots of guys back, but it isn't automatic that players get better each year.

Never any guarantees, but underclassmen that log playing time tend to catapult the following year.

The key is a RBC. When we have a guy we fail, it's that simple - KF will stay stubborn with the run. Hopefully the emergence of Fant and Easley will help us impose a Jr QB with a year of experience onto opponents.

I agree it's better to have guys back in most cases. For sure if you have a great team and lots of guys back it's a really good thing. If you have a bad or an average team, just having guys back is no guarantee you'll be better than bad or average. I always find it interesting when the pundits pick a 4-8 team to be 8-4 just because they have lots of returning starters. Having bad players returning is not helpful. Sometimes bad teams are better off with all new players coming in. Not saying we're a bad team with bad players and not trying to be argumentative. I'm just a little skeptical that having lots of guys back from a 6-6 or 7-5 team will make us dramatically better next year. Trading tOSU and MSU for Maryland and Indiana and having ISU, NW, Wisconsin and Nebraska at home gives me more optimism for next year than returning starters does.

OL that have been lost to injuries
RSSR Myer
RSSR Boettger
RSJR Legrand.

still available
RSSO Levi and Landon Paulson both behind starter
RSFR Banwart and RSFR William both behind Daniels at the center
JR Render and JR Reynolds most of the OL are guards , can't help you with your constant non fact bellyaching.

Again, all that matters is upside. If underclassmen return it's a good thing. They haven't reached their potential. The difference between AJEp this year and next year is that of a whole new player. If a bunch of freshmen and sophomores are starting on a 7-5, 8-4 team it means they pulled off a halfway decent year without the benefit of their adult frames and experience.

I agree, we see a junior-laden team make the Sweet 16 in basketball and expect leaps forward using the *we're returning everybody* cliche. That's why basketball will be so exciting. Upside, upside, upside.

So you have already given up on this season?
Depends, what is the goal? We figured a good year means to go 1-2 against the obvious Big Three of our schedule while stealing a couple roadies from NW, MSU and NEB. Situations of which we've played 3 and we're 0-3 in those situations and can only swallow 3 losses. Can we go 1-1 against the next two juggernauts? Certainly.

Long story short we've only won the games we're supposed to while dropping one we couldn't afford. We couldn't lose both middling roadies. It's impossible now to go 2-1 at NW MSU NEB.

Win out besides one vs OSU or WIS. With the evidence this team has given us we can't expect that. But it's in no way an unsalvageable season.

You got that right. There have been times that I was happy some were graduating. Love their dedication and desire but, hey..

So you have already given up on this season?
no but most on here have. but when I look at all the FR/RSFR that are playing and knowing they are just getting started theirs no reason not to get excited, this season can still have a winning record and a bowl game to go into spring practice on a high note.

I also look at how past OL got better from year to year,
Scherff never played or started till his RSSO Year at LT and now there is a RSFR starting at LT.
Daniels got his 1st start as a true FR at LG and now he has been the starting center the last 2 seasons
Wirfs started just 2 games ago as a true FR so he is just getting started
RSSO Levi is the backup to RSSR Welsh at RG
RSSO Landen is 3rd string behind Render and JR Reynolds
RSJR Legrand has been lost for the season other wise he might have been the starter at RT. others have not panned out and have been passed by younger players this is a good thing,
these are RS'ing
6'6 Kallenberger
6'5 Kirkpatrick a converted DL.
in the 2018 class
6'8 Pump who is a TE who is going to be a T
6'5/6 Ince G/T
6'4 Jenkins C/G

the future of the OL looks very bright, the skill players are looking very good
QB Stanley
TE Fant thru 7 games 16 catches 232 yards and 4 TD's
TE Hochenson 12 catches 175 yards and 1 TD
they have combined to catch 28 passes of the 116 completions, 407 yards of the 1513 yards and 5 TD's of the 17 total TD's. I think they have done a very good job to date.
Stanley has only been sacked 11 times thru 7 games vs CJ who was sacked 30 times in 13 games,
Wadley who has been limited in the run game as more than made up for it in the passing game with 18 catches for 263 yards vs last season when he had 36 catches for 315 yards for a 8.8 ypc vs this years 14.6 ypc.

Most people are quick to shrug off recruiting rankings considering how many times they've witnessed busts, but when you combine them with playing time you got something cooking. Your recruiting is reflected in the 2-deeps for Iowa Football if you're an underclassman. Ferentz has proven in spades he'll take a mediocre Senior over, well, ANY freshman or sophomore. For some reason he stopped doing that. And we know it's not for lack of stubbornness if the play-calling is any indication.

I could ramble on or I can just point out that Epenesa got snaps against Penn St. And he almost won it. Losing Jewell sucks but we gain what Epenesa is going to be. The difference between Jr and Sr is negligible. Everything before that is a breakout waiting to happen.

this is the GD and BF affect. GD was a staunch supporter of having the best players play no matter what grade they were in and BF bought into that mind set.
now we are seeing the effect with all the FR playing in the last 2 classes,

Kilroy I have had a long day and I'm in an odd mood so I will try to play a little different. I think you try to find the things you see in your head. Sure, there have been a couple guys that have waved the fire ferentz flag but it seems pretty even keeled around here. Most things you read guys/ladies are saying exactly what you just posted without all the *s. I think if you look around the attitude is wait and see with a little Brian needs to figure his shiz out. Honestly though if you are 115 out of 135, or whatever the numbers are, your going to take some heat. 7-4 would be good 6-6 and a bowl is a must. You talk about the young guys we need that month.

SWEET!!!!! We'll get a top-ten finish during that time?!?! I know I shouldn't get too greedy with the guarantee of a top-ten finish, but...any conference championships perchance?

This team took a half off vs Penn St and lost on the final play. Dad or no dad, that has to sting for a young Offensive Coordinator. The other two losses were 17-10 on the road. Kirk can cite past glory and a major win seemingly every year to justify his style, but Brian is trying to show his chops
He will NOT be content with the predictable nature he's encouraged to run. He knows we should be 2-1 in those games rather than 0-3, he knows the defense came up big in those games, he knows this isn't some average team, he knows offense is the problem and, most importantly, he knows he has the personnel.

The microscope is on a guy whose livelihood and credibility is on the line. I don't foresee any changes since I think we can run on Minnesota, but when Ohio St comes calling I *guarantee* we'll see a different 1st half than what we're used to.

It will be more of the same mediocrity just different players IMO under the old coach..

C'mon Kilroy, stars matter.

I am tired of excuses for the Ferentz clan. Time to start seeing some real preparation and game time execution.

you really must have hated the 8-0 BT West Division Title and 12-2 record and Iowa beating #3 Michigan and Iowa finishing in a T-2nd last season, starting with GD's 1st recruiting class in 2013 these were Iowa's finishes
2013 2nd
2014 4th
2015 BT West Division Title
2016 2nd.
2017 yet to be determined.
yeah Iowa has been having lousy finishes.
