The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has suspended federal funding to the University of Maine System, which had received nearly tens of millions in funding for agricultural research and farmer assistance. The USDA's Office of the Chief Financial Officer instructed that no payments or funding are authorized for the University of Maine System while evaluating potential violations of Title VI and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.

So Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding and the Maine Governor has responded by saying that she will fight that, of course. It was reported that she threatened to withhold Federal taxes if he cut off funding. That was just an internet rumor though and is not true. However, let's say it were true. Is that when this farce blows up? Does Trump send the DoJ in to try to arrest the Governor of Maine? Does the Maine National Guard try to prevent it?
Such a scenario would have been ridiculous 10 years ago, but it is an even bet that it could happen now. God knows that Trump is never pulling the car to the side in a game of chicken. Judging how Democrats had zero plan for how to react to Trump after losing the election I'm not giving them much hope that they are planning for what will happen if it does get to this point. My guess is Schumer will ask her to step down or something like that "because the alternative is worse".
