Mr. Ryan, at a news conference in the Capitol, hailed the passage of the bill.

“We just completed the work on a bipartisan highway bill,” he said. “It cuts waste. It prioritizes good infrastructure. It will help create good-paying jobs. And it is the result of a more open process.

“Over these last four days, the House has debated more amendments than in the last four months combined,” Mr. Ryan said, adding, “This is a good start. It’s a glimpse of how we should be doing the people’s business.”

Did Paul Ryan's family stay back in Wisconsin? I assume they did. I completely support his stance on not losing his family time, kids grow up way too fast. If they did stay in Wisconsin I wonder how he'll get back to see them and not lose that family time. I know Nancy Pelosi caught a lot of grief for using her 12-seat Air Force jet that every house speaker gets use of. I hope those that bitch and moaned about Pelosi going back and forth do the same for Ryan.

I think that highway bill took a long time to negotiate....that being said I'm pleased it finally passed. We will see what the Senate does and then the conference.

Ryan to continue Boehner's ban on using private government jets

House Speaker Paul Ryan will continue John Boehner's self-imposed prohibition on using government-chartered, private jets.

As second in line to the presidency, the speaker of the House is allowed use of an Air Force jet to travel around the country. When Boehner (R-Ohio) took the speakership in 2011, he vowed to not use the jet. On Friday, Ryan's office told POLITICO that he would not use the jet, either. Boehner's prohibition did not extend to overseas travel.

Nancy Pelosi caught flak when, as speaker, she flew home to San Francisco on a military airplane. That prompted Boehner's decision to impose the ban.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how he'll get back? I doubt the Speaker of the House is allowed to fly commercially. A chartered jet?

It looked like they slipped the import/export bank decision in with this bill. I thought that it should have stood on its own.

Feels like it was swept under the rug in this fashion.

But how do you feel about the recent accomplishments and Ryan's plans for the House?

We'll get to the back and forth travel when there's enough of a sample to dissect.

I'm always a fan of infrastructure improvement but Democrats have always been a fan of infrastructure improvement so I'm not really surprised they were bipartisan on the transportation bill. In reality it's more of a punt on a viable solution for a long drawn out problem on how to get federal transportation programs back on track but it does seem to help the construction industry and I think that's a positive. I do think Ryan is lucky that Boehner threw him a bone and got the debt ceiling issue passed before he left the post. That said, even with the small sample size I think its a positive step in the right direction.

Somehow I don't think Ryan will take nearly the heat from the GOP on how much he travels back and forth to Wisconsin. President Obama still catches hell for it today, and the topic was brought up on Pelosi almost monthly.

You just gave me shivers I forgot how close Nancy Pelosi was to being in control of this country holy s***

The reason Pelosi took heat was because she requested a larger plane that could fly non-stop to California (global warming be damned).

And there was also the crazy budget for in-flight food and booze.

What fact are you talking about Metuo? Let me help educate both you and Tradition. You're welcome. Make sure to keep that hate alive boyz

When Pelosi became speaker, House Sergeant at Arms Bill Livingood, according to his own account, worried that the small craft would be unable to travel to her home district of San Francisco without stopping to refuel. Livingood, who was first elected by a Newt Gingrich-led House in 1995, asked the Air Force and the Department of Defense about getting a bigger plane. He also requested clarifications of other rules regarding the aircraft – for instance, whether family members would be allowed to accompany Pelosi on her flights.

Gosh, that Bill Livingood was such a thoughtful fellow. Always looking out for the best interests of others.

I just didn't want you to sound like an moron if the subject were ever brought up again. Now you'll be able to discuss it like an educated person.

I suppose having the airplane bar stocked with Maker’s Mark, Courvoisier, Grey Goose and Bombay Sapphire was for security purposes, too?

Oh. Were you that upset when Dennis Hastert was doing the same thing or does your hate for Nancy allow you to pick and choose what you're outraged over?

The conservative group Judicial Watch obtained 2,000 pages of receipts and expense reports for speaker travel under the Freedom of Information Act. The group says these demonstrate Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s “boorish demands for military travel” are “more about partying than anything else.” Based on that, the conservative WorldNetDaily ran an eye-popping but inaccurate headline that said, "Taxpayers pay $101,000 for Pelosi’s in-flight ‘food, booze.’ " Claims of Pelosi’s extravagant liquor bills spread from there through any number of blogs and chain e-mails, which sometimes attribute the in-flight costs of entire delegations to Pelosi alone on her flights between Washington and her district in California.

But Judicial Watch is wrong in several respects. Our examination of the documents reveals that Judicial Watch overstated the amount of money spent on “in-flight expenses” for Pelosi’s congressional delegations, or CODELs. Furthermore, Judicial Watch, a watchdog group that describes itself as "conservative," failed to compare Pelosi’s costs with those of the previous speaker, Republican Dennis Hastert, even though the Air Force handed over documents covering CODELs that he led, as well as those led by Pelosi. And the fact is that Hastert’s travel, as represented in Judicial Watch’s own documents, was comparable to Pelosi’s.

And get this guys. We're talking about hundreds of dollars of food and drink here. HUNDREDS!!!!!! Pelosi doesn't drink alcohol but some other members of congress that were also on the same flight do. Again nothing more than a deep seeded hate of Democrats and Nancy Pelosi as you've proved now with your posts.

Actually, I find it offensive no matter who is doing it. They can have a canned beer and peanuts like the rest of us get.
