The National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee is standing behind Herschel Walker following a report that the GOP Senate hopeful in Georgia paid for a girlfriend’s abortion in 2009, the group’s chairman, Sen. Rick Scott (R-S.C.), said in a statement Tuesday.
Walker on Monday strongly denied the allegation, saying in a televised interview on Fox News Channel that the account published in the Daily Beast is a “flat-out lie.”
Walker’s denial came after the Daily Beast published a detailed description from an unnamed former girlfriend who said that Walker encouraged her to have an abortion after she became pregnant while they were dating, wrote her a $700 check to pay for the procedure and then sent her a subsequent “get well” card.
“Herschel has denied these allegations and the NRSC and Republicans stand with him, and Georgians will stand with him too,” Scott said in a statement. He described Walker as the victim of a “smear machine.”
Scott cited past controversies involving allegations of sexual harassment against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. Both were confirmed by the Senate despite the allegations.

Hershel Walker personifies the difference in today's political parties. Republicans will support anyone if they think they can win a senate seat. Dems would never support someone so totally unfit like Walker as a senate candidate.
