Former president Donald Trump on Wednesday attacked Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Evan McMullin, an independent candidate seeking to unseat Utah’s other Republican senator, Mike Lee, in a race next month.
Both Romney and McMullin, Trump said in a social media post, do not “represent the values of Utah.”
Trump’s posting on Truth Social came a day after Lee, in a Fox News interview, took Romney to task for not endorsing him in his reelection bid this year. Romney has said he is staying neutral because he is friends with both Lee and McMullin, a former CIA officer who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2016.
Trump said Wednesday that Lee had been “abused, in an unprecedented way, by a fellow Republican Senator from his own State, something which rarely has happened in political History.”
Trump also noted that he carried Utah in 2016 when McMullin was on the presidential ballot as an independent candidate.
Trump added that this year, Lee has his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”
