Just basically an open question, but what do you think the loss of Lee to the room will do to affect the progress of Ayala? Drilling with him daily had to be beneficial. And yes I understand that if Lee was still in the room Ayala would not be in the line-up.

Well losing your head captain is always going to have negative effects. Luckily Drake still has ADS to roll around with. Think that guy can make one improve in the room as well.

Basically zero. Lee has spent very little time on the mat since Ayala got on campus.

Didn't Lee say himself that he was only drilling for 5 to 10 minutes a practice this year and then would have to go back to the stationary bike as his knees would get really sore? The "old man plan" was how it was worded. Drake didn't get live goes with Lee at all the way it sounded.

I agree with the posts above that address his time on the mat with Drake, but wonder how much Lee being out impacts Desanto.

From an outside perspective, it seems like SL is a positive and stabilizing force for AD. While no one here seems to know what's up with AD right now, his absence from the line-up happened right after Spencer went out. Not sure there is much correlation between these two, but perhaps they are connected. Emotional support and all.

I better go post this theory in all 5 of the Austin Desanto threads. ;)

I am not sure, but in reading about Lee's time in the room following his second knee injury last spring I got the impression that he wasn't rolling around very much with anyone, let alone Ayala. So I am not sure how much "Lee time" Ayala was getting...perhaps little to none.
TnT obviously screwed the pooch when they didn’t consult with the cesspool on surgery schedule for SL. I was pretty sure how that would turn out.

Ayala definitely has been drilling with Desanto. Alot of similarities in style and technique.

The Loss of Lee Effect is that there are 10 threads on the first page about DeSanto instead of Lee.

No doubt his fore is missed, how many interviews after matches where he says something along the line of , its my job to go first and set the pace, energy of the match. He was very specific after NCAA Champs.
What's interesting to me is, he is the best turner I have ever seen, tilting ranked opponents like they are rag dolls, how has that not made all of Iowa into tilting machines. Get on top, grab a wrist, shove head in armpit, bunch of other stuff, n boom 4 points, repeat.
He makes it look routine. We got to see something special with him.
Insert quote I live by,
"Don't be sad its over, be grateful it happened "
