Back to the original thread title. @Whiskeydeltadeltatango (or other people who have studied these things) I don’t know very much about personality disorders, but Trump sure seems like a sociopathic narcissist to me. Help a brother out with your take on the below:
It seems to me Trump has kind of boxed himself into a corner here. His brand and ego are closely tied to a “never back down” identity. And he went out so strong with his first punch that he left very little room to maneuver. If he backs down now he looks like a pussy which I assume his narcissism would never allow, but if he doesn’t back down he and the rest of us lose.
How does he reconcile his mistake with an ego that can’t accept that he ever makes mistakes? It seems to me he needs some small win that allows him to save face (with his own ego more so than even with his constituents). Is that how you see it?
And if so, what would that win have to look like to at least extricate us from the escalations so we can start negotiating a solution here.

That originated because apparently they are suppose to give Trump a recommendation about martial law at the border on April 20.
I am not ruling out him declaring martial law, but if he did it would likely be restricted only to cities in blue states. IE NYC, Chicago, LA etc. He doesn't have the forces to declare martial law nationwide.
Plus it would anger his base, red state governors, and Republicans in congress which might cause them to actually do their jobs and reign him in.
If he's going to do that he will be doing it to people who where never going to support him in the first place.

Trump was only ever known for branding. He had little experience with markets and the larger economy. I don't understand why maga thinks, as he's out of his element, he is the master negotiator when he doesn't have experience in all the background details.
