Definitely seems like a high priority with everything else going on.

Trump floats $5 million 'gold card' as a route to US citizenship

WASHINGTON, Feb 25 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday floated the idea of replacing a visa program for foreign investors with a so-called "gold card" that could be bought for $5 million as a route to American citizenship.

Trump told reporters he will replace the "EB-5" immigrant investor visa program, which allows foreign investors of large sums of money that create or preserve U.S. jobs to become permanent residents, with a so-called "gold card."

The EB-5 program grants "green cards" to foreigners promising to invest in U.S. businesses.

"We are going to be selling a gold card," Trump said. "We are going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million," he added.

"It's going to give you green card privileges plus its going to be a route to (American) citizenship, and wealthy people would be coming into our country by buying this card," Trump said, adding that details about the scheme will come out in two weeks.

Trump added it is possible Russian oligarchs could qualify for the gold cards, when asked by a journalist if those people would be eligible. "Yeah, possibly. Hey. I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people," he said.

America has enough rich people.

It needs cheap, unskilled labor.

$5 million?

He's lost touch with the world around him (not just recently though). The vast majority of people in this world can only dream about a net worth of $5 million after a lifetime of working and saving.

He thinks it's chump change.

Little people aren't his concern. He only thinks about the people who can afford this. Those are the people he wants to impress.
Incidentally, rich people already can grease the wheels on getting citizenship more quickly.

What happened to becoming a citizen the old fashioned way? Lying about your status in the US, marrying a fat old guy that inherited a lot of money, and then dropping an anchor baby.
I have friends that have married Greek men so the men can get citizenship. I know more than a few, actually.

Guess how many people outside of the United States have $5 million+ in assets.

I mean, I wouldn't be upset if this actually worked but you have to be a complete idiot to think that Trump would let this money go to paying down the debt. He might throw a couple bucks that way for the photo op then he'd find ways to funnel that money into his own pockets and then blame spending on poor and middle class for why the debt never actually got paid off.

Also, it's a pretty wild assumption to think that ever person that could afford to pay $5 million to become a citizen would actually do this.

There are only like two million people outside the United States with a net worth over $5 million and they’re almost all in highly developed countries.

This is nothing new😵‍💫

once again liberals hating on success. I say if they want to pay to be here, be my guest. I cannot think of anything that would better embody the American dream than a program like this!

Thank god for President Trump!!

And to be able to truly afford to drop $5m your net worth would need to be several times that, at the very least. And if you have that kind of money, why do you need to come to the U.S. in the first place?!?
