We will have two scholarships, Jok and Jones, to fill is that right? Who do we want? A center and a pg I would assume.

Edit: We already got Conner, so just one ride left. The staff can really zero in and focus they're attention I would think.

Connor has verballed.

So as of today, that leaves 1 (likely for a big man).

Fran has offered and is recruiting a few wings (ala Goodwin) in case another scholly opens up.

Why doesn't Connor just walk on? We could add another recruit to the class if Fran pays Connor's $7,000 tuition. It's not like the McCaffery's are in a tight financial position.

1) Playing time starts becoming an issue with walk-ons getting starter-quality minutes.
2) If a kid is good enough to earn a scholarship, he should get a scholarship.

3) There will likely be more spots in this class anyway once the roster is given a couple years to shake out.

You just opened a can of worms. Thanks for hijacking the thread. Fran and family can do what they want. Connor is clearly a D1 recruit.

That is a slippery slope iMo. Conner is likely gonna end up top 100 kid. He deserves a scholarship. Plus numbers matter.

I think devontae lane could get an iowa offer at some point. Wouldn't shoo me if he plays his way into the top 100 next summer.

IMO they can really swing for the fences as they only have 1 for 2017 and 0 for 2018. I definitely don't think they're gonna get lazy because it's highly likely at least 1, maybe 2 guys will transfer.

Nice thing is we have a very solid class for this year completed with a legit top 50 player in Cook. Then on top of it we have Connor lined up already with weiskamp #19 in his class by ESPN and Patrick mccaffery year after. Plus we have a pretty athletic freshman class this year. Future is bright for Iowa bball.

I agree. Until this year is over, we really don't know our needs beyond players whose talent is on the next level. That's why I think we should make some contacts now like Fran is doing and go ahead and pitch for guys like Malik Williams.

For the betterment of the team, this could happen - Connor taking a walk-on position to add a major recruit. He would still get a scholly for 3 years.

It is really a quite simple thought, a major player accepts a ride to Iowa (for example, a top 100 6'11" atheltic freak, shot blocking gazelle). Connor alone greatly improves the team by pushing the scholly for one year. He also improves his chances of making the deepest run an Iowa team has had in 30+ years. All because of him. Now, maybe that is a little selfless of Connor, wanting his team to dominate. But damn, I would do it in a heartbeat!

That would be a backup scenario, however. Most likely someone will be leaving for not living up to their potential. If you do not bust your arse for Fran & the team, you will not be at Iowa long. You are here to live and breathe basketball. Get good grades and focus. It costs a lot of $$ to be a Hawkeye. The trainers, academic assistance, facilities, training table, etc, etc. Maybe not the $200k/year of a Kentucky scholarship, but I would wager way more than I make in a year, and I make a decent living... It has been play for pay for a while now, and it is growing.

Question for you...have not seen Lane for a while...how did he do with his outside shooting this summer? That has been one of the question marks with him...I know ISU offered but I really thought at the time it was kind of weird...he still is just going into his junior year..

I know one high school coach that does not feel he is B1G ability...but sometimes that is based on what? again he still is only a junior.

Making a decent living eh? Funny how that works itself in there.
