...I will reluctantly resume my often held position in the Loyal Opposition. My many Democratic friends must also remain calm, but vigilant. There is no need for despair, at least not yet. The Republican majority is not, of course, permanant. I have trust in America and its people. I fully expect the incoming Trump crowd to over play their hand, and I expect they will do so quickly. When that occurs, and it will occur, the people will respond accordingly in the 2026 mid-terms. Am I not fearful? Yes, a middling amount. Trump is a wannabe desot, yes that is true...But the people have not changed. What he will do, can later be undone. Let us pray the human cost will not be too great in the meantime.

I had coffee early this morning in the shop with a group of a dozen or so of my 50/50 old friends. There was the usual good natured political jokes at my expense, but they stopped short of gloating. There was only a minute or two of serious talk, and these Trump folks wliingly admitted he was a rough talking wildcard. But they drove home two quick & very sharp points - The border, they want it fixed. The economy, they believe it is bad and they think he can fix it. As they all drove away I thought to myself... We will see, and soon.

Good post. My wife had similar conversations. In the meantime, I refuse to talk to idiots. I see their dumbass opinions in media everyhwere. I just hope another airborne plague is sent by God that kills all 2024 Trump voting morons. They are morons, after all. The economy is in very good shape, but they've been willingly brainwashed by right wing propagandists.

Set it all aside for now. Enjoy the holiday season. They will do crazy and hurtful things, there is no doubt, but it will pass.

Felt the same yesterday morning with my breakfast group of guys when they brought it up.
Time will tell.

Bit overboard wishing them death. Funnel the anger into something positive. If even over half of the stuff he wants is implemented it could turn shitty.

Great post OP. Almost as good as the stories about your sister in law. As I reflect on this election one thing seems crystal clear to me: this might be the best (or only) way for America to see Trump’s promises for what they are.

In a weird way the timing of the pandemic gave the guy a hall pass. He printed more money than Biden in stimulus, which absolutely contributed to inflation. But he never had to face the consequences because he was out of office. In retrospect it might have been better for him to win in ‘20 so he bore the full outcomes of his policies, but it all got mixed with Biden’s actions (which were not great either for the record).

Well, now he has his mandate. He has a bunch of promises from tariffs to cost cutting. It is his to own and the MAGA legacy is riding on how he does. Perhaps the only way to get past Trumpism is to fully embrace it and point out the consequences.

Plus it is WAY more fun to play offense than defense.

SIL is still available if you are interested. She has been a complete pest these past few weeks. She is currently on her way to the airport to pickup Mrs. Bean this afternoon.

All talk and No walk. If you want them all dead, do something about it or STFU.

What a stupid ass post. You wish death upon people because they don’t agree with you. Vast majority of America doesn’t agree with you. I’ve never heard anyone vote for Trump say they wished death upon Kamala and her supporters. After the ass whoopin you received 48 hours ago you think you would learn. Your comments and way of thinking created this. Go for a walk, find a safe space, but don’t do this. To wish death upon people is moronic and unforgivable.

America does not share your opinion, America has voted. Popular vote, senate and house, It wasn’t even close.

Great post.

My confusion, other than inflation (a big asterisk admittedly), what about the economy is faltering right now? And, what is Trump going to do to help? I haven't heard this answered in a reasonable way yet.

Current inflation is back down to approx. 2%.
Current prices are certainly higher than when Biden took office, but they had risen nearly 5% in drump’s last year in office.
I think the scream about inflation is yesterday’s news.
A recent WSJ article talked about the strong economy that the new president would inherit… stronger than any worldwide.

Sure seems like it.

Labor market is strong (anecdotally, but I can't think of a single acquaintance who is unemployed).
Markets all time highs.
Inflation back to typical.
Wages up. Earning power up.

I suppose the worst thing affecting folks right now is high interest rates, and that's not on the President. And of course high housing costs but if you own that means you're sitting on equity.

Another interesting note, the money to support Ukraine mostly stays in the USA. If that goes away, there will be approximately 80 cities with a lot less work.

What am I missing?
