It was Mrs. Radley's 60th birthday last Saturday, so we and four other couples spent the weekend at a great house on the beach in Rehoboth. It was an entire weekend of non-stop laughter, flying kites, going to nice restaurants, shopping, and dancing. Not a word about politics or the election all weekend, and other than an occasional couple of minutes during bowel movements (an appropriate time) I wasn't on the Interwebz the entire time. This is what life is really all about: connections with other people. We are very lucky to have a lot of good friends who are good people.

Congrats to Mrs. R. Rehobeth can be wonderful this time of year. The quiet, as you note, is the best part.

As it happens, it was also Mrs. A's 60th. We went to the Homestead for the first time in probably a decade (we used to take our kids there when they were young). The Omni folks have done a nice job with the restoration, and more importantly, they've done an outstanding job bringing back the hospitality culture the place once had in its older days. There was a nice energy to the place between a broadband conference and the holiday weekend. Took a wonderful hike in the mountains, then some quiet reading time by the fireplace while Mrs. A and daughter went to the spa. As you note, the quiet family time was the best part. Only complaint was the value prop - they run on the nursing home pricing model, with lots of ancillaries. But I get it - classic places like this, in the middle of nowhere, are not easy to maintain if you're not doing it as a labor of love. Just ask Senator-elect Jim Justice..

Sounds great! Glad you were able to enjoy it. Happy birthday to her.

"Quiet" is actually not a word I would use to describe the weekend! We are a pretty loud group. And Rehoboth itself is starting to be pretty active even in the off season. The streets, restaurants, and clubs were full.
